learened somethng new with remote start

SOOOO
dummy me, had left the expy in the driveway, so i could sweep out the garage.
so a few hours later i started it with the remote start and then unlocked the doors,
I laid the fob down on the tool box, not really thinking.

so i get in and of course its running, so i try to put it in drive...no bueno.. cant get the shifter to unlock..
i try a few times..then the light goes on in the brain and i see the PRESS start button...heheheheheeee
so i press start and brake and it goes into normal run.
then i try to shift.....NO KEY detected and it wont shift.

so i had to back in the garage and get the fob

i had no idea it would do that.

This is extremely interesting. Because even with no key, mine will still allow the gear to be selected. I wish it would not- basically like the police SSV Explorers. Would you mind trying that one more time?

yes i will do it again, i thought it was a fluke. but then thought because i already tried to shift without doing the press start foot on brake thing, it must have figured i was taking off.
my fob was over 40 feet away

If it’s running and you get out and walk away with the key it will drive for a period of time I want to say I read 20 minute in the manual (like if you valet and forget the keys).

But if you start it with remote start and get in without your key, even if you press the start button, it won’t shift. (Theft protection)

Mine will not shift when remote start activated until you put key into ignition and turn to on. I was a little funny watching my wife figure that out the other day after I started the truck and she was driving and didn't put the key.

They are talking about things that are on the 3rd gen expeditions. Your vehicle would need aftermarket Stuff.
