2004 Ford Expy XLT 55,000m 5.4l 4x4.
Current performance mods: K&N Cold Air Intake, Magnaflow 3" SI/SO Catback Exhaust, EDGE Programer.

I have a spare $1,200 waiting to be put into this thing. (It is paid off and is caught up on all maintenance.) I was wondering what would be the best route to go with to get some more outta my rig. Can anyone lead me down the right path!? Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, that's about the only thing you can do to get any noticable extra power out of that motor. I don't think it's possible to do on a $1200 budget, even with used parts.

I guess you could put a NOS system on it for about $500 - $700

who need nitrous oxide? haha but ive seen a few lightning super chargers for sale on the SD craiglist for about 1200. but then were sold like the next day. if you can make a custom turbo system your self it wouldnt be that much. just plumbing and the turbo would be the most. but then you would need to redo the computer. so i dont think you can do anything on a 1200 budget. try re gearing your diffs for quicker accelerations or opening up your exhaust by removing that cats.

I suppose those are all possibilities but a buddy of mine was telling me that I should put on bigger fuel rails and injectors, a larger throttle body, efans and pulleys, and long tube headers. What would this do for me? Would this give me a substantial amount of added power?

yeah that would too. but thats a lot of time. i guess all of it is too. a larger throttle body will help a lot! e fan will free up some power too. and if you can find long tube headers thatll help some too. added your talking about 10-30 hp gain. just what i would think.

Hey 2004ex

My Expy looks just like yours( but an 03 and I have stock wheels)
I have a question for you. I am thinking about getting Magna flow catback system for my truck(part #15755). Just how loud is it in the truck??????
I use the Expy everyday and alot of times my wife is with me. Is it too loud for everyday driving??
Thanks

It's definitely not too loud for everyday driving. We've had that Magnaflow exhaust on there for well over a year and hasn't bothered us one bit. Actually wish it was a bit louder, but thats just me. You will be VERY pleased with it.

But yeah i think I'm leaning more toward the fuel rail, etc... option, then later, when funds allow it, slap on an SC. Thank you for your help. Any other thoughts from anyone?

Take a look at the HORRIBLE factory attempt at making a Y-pipe, plus the 4 catalytic converters in front of it. These things have a pretty restrictive exhaust between the engine and the point where your cat-back is replaced.

You probably can free up hp, torque, and widen the power band by replacing the 4 stock cats with 2 highflow cats. Then while they're doing that they can make some better piping. Headers will help too.

My goal is to throw away the whole exhaust system. I'm planning 2 hi-flow converters going into an H-pipe, and then those two pipes into a big "dual in-single outlet" muffler. No resonator either. I'm hoping to gain maybe 15 hp/torque, but overall get better mpg. The power band should definitely widen up too. I just want a quiet 70 series flowmaster or similar.

I'm new to the site too! Question for ya 2004EX! I have been looking for a Edge Programmer for my Expe, but from what I see, they don't make one for this particular year, am I mistaken? And, what did it do for you performance wise? My Dad has one on his F150 and it's fantastic! Nice looking Ride, by the way!

if you replace the injectors, fuel rail and throttle body with bigger, you will probably need a whole new tune

also, if anyone is getting rid of their stock catalytic convertors, I will be very interested in purchasing them. mine are plugged

I agree with 03blkstanggt. I used supercharger to boost up my car's power. I think that you should try it too. :D
