Now I'm really confused.

So I finally figured out the spark plug AWSF-22w is replaced with the SP479.
Then I read this:

AWSF-22W series is history man..

Ref 2002 5.4L: VIN L -

The Average/Common plug and updated part # for your 2002 -

MOTORCARFT PLATINUM SPARK PLUG - MFR#. - SP479

That's for all 5.4L's Non Supercharged VIN L 97-03 Models.

BTW - This is the plug for Bi-Fuel models as well.

VIN "M" 5.4L's (Modified) require a different plug. If your VIN "M" ~

Motorcraft = MFR#: SP405

How do I know if my 2002 Expy is an L or M engine?
I have an L & M on my vin.

I checked my parts dept just now they say the only plug listed for 02 exp 5.4 is sp479.

The 8th character is the engine.
