May just stick with the F-150 5.0 due to the numbers. It is a good truck and I really can't knock the 5.0. it is powerful, sounds great and returns good MPG even when towing. I dont tow more than 5000-6000 lbs and it does fine. Same load with my old 2008 expo also did ok, but I like the ability on the truck to lock out upper gears. If I do pursue the 2017 expo I will only get a unit with the ford CPO warranty.

What are you guys getting real world MPG with the eco boost expeditions? Will see how this shakes out

I was getting 18+ mpg combined highway and street. I do more highway driving but in So Cal, that doesn’t always equal better mileage with traffic. Added a ReadyLIFT kit and 33” tires and mileage dipped by a little over 1 mpg. Getting just shy of 17 mpg currently. Im sure results are varied out there but that’s what I’m experiencing with the ‘17 EcoBoost Expedition.

I haven’t had an opportunity to tow anything so can’t add any commentary on that.

I'm getting 18-19mpg during the winter, mostly highway, and 19-20mpg during the summer, mostly highway.. If most of my driving is around town I get around 17mpg. Towing our 21' tritoon, which is 27' long from the trailer tongue to the prop and about 3,500lbs I get 8-9mpg, but it tows like a parachute, it's just under 7' tall and 8 1/2' wide.

2017 Expy XLT XL with close to 50,000 miles on it. During the winter I'm averaging 17.7mpg (by the dash display) mixed driving on 87 octane. I was averaging 18.9 this summer mostly on 87 ocatane with some 93 thrown in when towing. The 18.9 doesn't include towing which I averaged around 9 mpg.

In winter running 87 octane, I'm getting 14-15mpg hand calculated, the DIC tends to be more optimistic. Granted my wife does most of that driving and her commute is only 1.5 miles each way to work so truck doesn't get warmed up much daily. I make sure to run it a bunch on the weekends to compensate and boil any water or gas out of the oil. Towing, I get 8-9mpg which is standard for the ecoboost pretty much regardless of the weight you're towing.

On the highway between 80 and 85mph on cruise control, I get 17-22mpg depending on if I'm driving into the wind or not. This motor loves to boost, and it won't even downshift to climb hills at 80+, it just boosts on up like you're on flat ground. Great comfortable family road trip vehicle with very respective mpg for its size and power.

Make sure you get a pre purchase inspection from a ford mechanic somewhere. The 5.0 has had its share of issues w oblong cylinder distortion.

If it noisy it’s got it.
