Greetings,
I think I need to replace the PCV vacuum hose assembly in my 2000 Expedition XLT 4x4 4.6L. Removing the assembly and capping the port on the rear of the intake manifold made a persistent and (very) rough idle go away.
Is it safe to drive with the port capped while I'm sourcing parts?
I've read through the big thread http://www.expeditionforum.com/f27/rough-idle-p0171-p0174-heres-what-you-need-check-first-4926/ and I've got a few questions.
First, that thread is for the 5.4L engine. Mine's a 4.6L. Are the part numbers the same? If not, does someone have them handy to share?
Can I get a full assembly at O'Reilly?
The elbows on both ends of the plastic pipe, well, they're crumbling, as is the foam insulation around the pipe. The pipe itself is healthy. Do I need to replace the assembly or just the elbows and foam?
Do I need to replace the PCV valve itself? there's over 150K miles on it, but it's nice and "clacky" when shaken.
The driver's valve cover has a pipe leading to the intake tube. The elbows and pipe are in fine shape. But the fitting in the valve cover ...... is there any maintenance required, such as another valve?
While I'm at it, I'm going to clean the MAF with the proper chemical, and scrub/re-oil my K&N cone.
Anywho......if someone could help with these questions, I'd be obliged. Thank you!
