My filter is behind the bumper as well, but my 2000 F-150 flareside sc 4x4 is on the block and its the same damn engine, its a pain in the azz to change it!:superhack:

Mines in the same location as everyone else that has pre 2000. The relocation kit from 97-99 would probably work on 00-03. I don't see why it wouldn't!

97-98 are different that 99-02. 2000 model year is the same as 99 and 01, in 99 they changed the bumper, and changed the transfercase along with other things to make it an a4wd instead of a 4x4 like 97-98. In 99 the motor alsp got upgrades to make it have 30 more HP and the computer was changed as a result. This meant a computer controlled spedometer versus a mechanically controlled speedo. There were otger changes but i just though i should say. Im sure you knew most of this but you said pre 2000 and the 99s are different than the 98s

I know this, i just included 99 because the oil filters are mounted behind the drivers side fog also!

And i know there are allot of differences between 1st and 2nd gen, but you should be able to use any 1st gen oil filter system because the gaskets are the same.

Just throwing that out there if any 2nd gen owner wanted to try it!
