Wondering if there's a smaller one available, with my stereo and now e-fans, idling is terribly dim and the drop in fan speed is more than considerable.

This isn't a race truck so high end rpm doesn't worry me with a smaller pulley if one is available?

would the smaller pulley help enough? wouldn't you do better with a bigger/better alternator in general?

It would but the pulley will likely be cheaper and this alt is only 1 year old or else I'd get a better one :)

Measure the diameter of the crank and alt pulleys. Then calculate the ratio between the two. You can then figure out what the corresponding rpm of the alt is at idle. Most alts will only put out 25% of their rated output when the engine is at idle. Once you know the ratio between the two pulleys you can calculate the rpm change at the alt.
The alt will usually reach max output at 1500 rpm at the crank. Don't go crazy and spin the snot out of it.

Will certainly measure!

Fans kick in about 205*, but run constantly when climate control is active.

And I don't run the system constantly but my sig shows I have about 3200 watts total. 1200 4chan el, 2000 sub.

Watts ÷ volts = amps

3200 ÷ 12 = 266.6 amps at max draw

May want to look into larger batteries and higher amp alternator.

Yes I have a capacitor to install but that wouldn't take care of constant draw at idle just spikes, correct?

A cap wont do much, it could help a bit but when I had a system that small I had two caps and they didn't help. I only use them on my mid amps to clean up the signal. More batteries can also help but not if the alt cant keep up. I do have a 350 amp alt for sale if you can bring yourself to spend a decent chunk of change.

My mistake it's only a 300amp. Should be good for mid 200's at idle. It's a custom alt from Excessive Amperage. Bought two for my truck but ended up only able to use one. Cost be about 475 with the powder coating. I can do 300 shipped.
