I was thinking about getting some spray on bed liner and painting my "tan" trim, so it could all be black and textured. I've seen lots of jeep with this done. What do you guys think?

oh yeah, my body lift and coil spacers just came in the mail. gap guards haven't came yet. should be getting done this weekend... FINALLY.

Just my .02, it will not look good. Its one thing if your intentions are to give it the "tough/rough look". I have seen it done though.

It will also some unwanted weight.

really? what makes you say that? and yes, the point was to get rid of the corny tan trim and replace it with a rigid black texture.

and why weight? it's just going to be 2 coats on the trim. nothing to major.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Herculiner has a gray that would go with my white Expy with a gray interior. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to remove the trim on the doors? Should I leave them on and paint over them? The extra weight means little to me and keeping the Northern NY salt off of the bottom of the truck would be great. Going to do the bumpers too. I really don't like chrome.

i was going to do this to my new front tube bumper when i finally get to building it. haha my neighbors broncos bumper has a texture to it. its nice. as for the side i would just sand the paint down so the liner has more sticky ness to it. but if its going on professionally i would just ask them and see what they recommend.

I'd love to do the front & rear bumpers, headlight surround, and door rubstrips in this stuff sometime. My brother did his dirtbike with it and it looks really good. Let up know how it turns out, and post pics!!

bombutt..
dont do the side trim. just paint them. or take them off, thats what i did. they are just glued on. as for the chrome bumpers, im not sure what year you have but for the 1st gen expy, you can find painted bumpers online pretty cheap, check ebay. i wouldnt try and herculine your chrome bumpers, wont stick very well.

wait... are you sure they're just glued on? I thought they were screwed on to the bottom... so if I take them off there won't be any holes? hmm... I might do that.

well then, what do you think if I spray bed liner on the back and front bumpers? They aren't painted it's also like a bed liner rigid tan texture.

thanks for the help by the way.

The side and lower molding are glued on. The first time I tried to take them off[my 99] I used heavy duty fishing line and worked it back and forth, like flossing. The line kept breaking so I just pulled the rest off. Get it started with a plastic puddy wedge and simply pull it off. You can get an eraser[made to go on a drill] and get most of the glue off, along with some WD-40.

yuppers, thats how to do it. i just did mine on a hot day and peeled them right off. the only things that have holes behind them are the fender moldings and any of the badges. i think a bedliner would look pretty good. i did mine with regular krylon flat black paint but there is also an undercoat spray at walmart in the auto section. i used that on some of my interior pieces and it turned out pretty good and solid. as for the bumper pads, you can either do the spray bedliner/undercoat or use some herculiner. i painted mine but i am going to redo them with the herculiner that i have in my cargo area....

so those side things on the doors come right off? GREAT! mine are all bubbled and nasty looking. i like the look with out them. so just some fishing line or piano wire and a puddy wedge? kool. might do that one weekend.

I like coating my chassis with spray on bedliner. It looks nice and makes it easy to wash off and keep clean. I've done this on the chassis, suspension, and wheel wells.

My cousin has a 99 Dodge ram, and he coated his slotted taillight covers, fender flairs, bug shield, and rocker panels with the herculiner.....it looks really good.
