Decided to take care of the infamous ford lug nuts before things got too out of hand. Seller on ebay had 25 pack of Gorilla lugs for $68, i had some ebay bucks set to expire, so ended up only costing $55. I apparently picked the worst wheel first, ended up getting 1 lug stuck in a socket that ill have to work out later. After the first wheel, the rest seemed in better shape plus i had a process down by that point. Money will spent to not have to worry about this issue again!

I'm new to Ford and glad I saw this post.

Looks like they don't like impacts. Good to know.

Are they just a chrome cap over a steel nut?
Yes, OEM ones are, i think i read its tin or something. Either way they are 2 piece, water gets in between and they balloon up and then sockets dont fit over them. Going to a good solid 1 piece is the way to go.

Chrome plating is different than two piece construction, note it says 1 piece construction in the same picture, the issue with ford's is the two piece construction, not the chrome plating.

I believe mcgard makes a good 1 piece as well, so Gorilla is not the only option for anyone looking.

Do you have a link to the ones you purchased? I had mine replaced once at dealer. But they put the same pos ones back on. Recommended driven products, but there like $160 a set, but includes 4 lockers.

Here is the link where i got mine, they come loose all in a box, assuming thats how they offer them cheaper. Amazon has some as well, along with summit, etc.

61147cx and 61148cx are the same, one us a bulk pack and one is a blister pack.

One more question, does the factory lug wrench fit the new Gorilla nuts? I see it says 21mm socket, but no idea what OEM ones are.

I trashed the factory ones at 1500 miles. They weren't as bad as these but definitely had issues. Also went with gorillas.

OEM are stainless steel cap not chrome.

Gorilla are chrome plated, they might rust (probably will in the salt)
but at least you can get the wheel off

https://www.gorilla-auto.com/lifetime-lug-nuts

Replaced the lugs nuts on a different vehicle with the one piece Gorilla chrome lug nuts due to the same issue. The chrome lug nuts definitely do rust with time in areas with salt on the roads in the winter. They mostly rust on the edges where the socket contacts the nut vs. the flat surfaces. Still better than the hassle of the 2 piece nuts that swell and fall apart.

OEM lug nuts should be 21mm - my nuts were deformed: 13/16, 21mm & 22mm on one wheel. I swapped them all out for McGard 64034 (black 22mm). Get yourself a breaker bar and deep socket (21mm for your Gorilla)

I am glad you posted this... I took one wheel off (only once) to look at something for my upcoming brake install and I looked at the lug and thought holy #$%^. it was all beat up with one go of the impact.

Ordering new ones now!
