I run 4.10s with street tires (285-60R18). These are heavy trucks and they need all the gear they can get.

Just curious why you'd go with 3.73 with a blower?

Having seen literally dozens of before/after dyno runs, and the dissappointment in almost everyone's faces at their expectations not being met with long-tube headers, I'd do them last if at all. The yare pricey and a PITA to install.

12 hp and 16 lb-ft of torque is the highest gain I've seen for a moderately-modded Lightning with long-tubes. Shorties were in the single-digits. These are trucks that are pushing about 450 RWHP.

However, there is a small gain to be had, so they aren't worthless. Just expensive in the hp/$$ ratio.

On these mod motors, the restriction in in the heads themselves, not in the exhaust. And if you've got a non-PI truck like mine, the heads are a huge restriction.

I got 10 hp and 16 lb-ft just by installing e-fans...until the fans kick on, at which point the alternator draws more power and the gains are minimal if any.

Heavily modded trucks are a different story. As much as 38 hp on trucks that are pushing over 600 RWHP.

That's why I recommend the sniper tuning software/programmer. It keeps growing with you. Whatever you do it can accomodate. It will even let you tune on the dyno and make changes to spark and fuel.

So how much is the sniper programmer? On another note, I heard its better to run 3.55's or 3.73's than 4.10's when using a supercharger. Not sure if its true though.

What kind of difference was there with the 4.10 gears?

maybe on a mustang the 3.55 gears would be better. The I've got the 3.73s in mine and wish i had 4.10s but I can't find any gears for the new IRS rear end.....

How does it feel with the new gears, and how much did it cost to get the new gears put in?

If you want LSD, you'll save $$$ on labor if you have it installed at the same time as the gears.

I went from 3.31 to LSD & 4.10s at the same time.

How much did it cost you to buy the parts and have it installed?

What about something like this? cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Auburn-Posi-Package-Ford-8-8-Gears-Master-Kit-Posi-New_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33731QQihZ017QQitemZ270038857154QQrdZ1

I got a Ford Racing diff for cheap, $220 I believe.
(The Auburn units are much better, but cost more)

The gears and installation of everything was $600...plus the $220 for the diff...that's $820.

The Auburn LSD, or any of the newer non-clutch types, are better because there are no clutches to wear out, and they also transfer more torque from side-to-side. I think mine will only transter something like 40% of torque, while the newer types will tranfer 80% or more if I'm not mistaken.

Cool. Actually I plan on getting the Auburn Pro instead of the high performance. I found one place selling the pro's for $369. If I'm going to invest all this money on it, I want the absolute best.

make sure you get the programmer too right away so you can put the right gear ratio in the computer so the speedometer and shift points will be correct....

You will be very pleased with the total upgrade.

As a matter of fact I'm selling my Superchip on ebay right now so I can get the sniper special forces module, to go along with the diff. and gears.

The canned tunes are all the same no matter makes them. I can really make the tune awesome for you though. Just with some transmission changes I can make the tuck a whole lot better to drive. I promise not to break anything....LOL
Tell them Matt Robinson sent you...

Sounds good, but who am I supposed to tell that Matt Robinson sent me...or is that a joke? Also, about a week ago I was getting onto the freeway, but a cop stopped everyone on the entrance ramp so that a few 18 wheelers could get by, and since I was stopped, I had to get going real quick because the traffic's moving at 60 already. I turned off overdrive, and stomped on the gas, but when it came time to shift, it just sat there revving high. I had to let off the gas to let it shift. Then I could smell something burning under the hood. I don't know what it is yet, but the Expedition still runs perfectly now.

If you order it directly from Sniper tell them that Matt Robinson referred you (the owners know who I am). I am going to start offering my custom tuning services to you guys in the near future. I can fix all the stuff that annoys you about your truck now like the 3/4 throttle to make it downshift crap.... almost any complaint you have I can take care of. All you need is the basic interface and software and then you can just send me your files in email and then I can modify them and send them back to you and you put them in the truck.

On your transmission I don't know what happend, but if your trans fluid gets low it can slosh to the back of the pan and cause it to miss the shift into 2nd or 3rd.... don't know what else to tell you on that one.....

I got caught up modifying my sound system. When that's done, I'll get the tuner. I should have the tuner by December.
