I went to my local dealer to have my oil changed. And was advised I had swollen lug nuts!

I have a 2015 Ford Expedition Limited 4x4, purchased new - driven in the Midwest (snow and ice in the winter...).

At the last oil change and tire rotation at the dealer, I had to replace 20 of the 24 lug nuts because they were swollen. The dealer stocked the lug nuts, as the service advisor said they see a lot of swollen ones that are difficult to remove with the stock socket size.

I have the premium Ford extended warranty and the service advisor said the defective lug nuts were not covered by the plan.

Gotta love that Ford quality.

I've got the original (not bad shape) from my 2014EL if anyone wants them.
Replaced with Gorilla last year, solid steel chrome plated.

I'm not sure what the dealer put back on, but they didn't charge me a dime for them. And they replaced all 24 according to the paper work, with part# ACPZ*1012*B. I guess I should have asked if these are all steel or if they with swell too!

All they did was give you new ****** ones that are gonna do the same thing. Those are the two piece with the cap. These will swell again in time

My nuts shrunk. I hate that. I've never seen the "swollen" , don't want to either.
Both use 13/16" socket
This OEM nut is cracked too … just the cap so I guess it's not that bad

I've had the wheels rotated a couple of times, no issues however I'm going to put front pads on this w/e hopefully, so I'll take a good look at them. From what I'm reading, I'd be wise to order a set anyway.....anyone know the stud diameter offhand?

And for you poor, poor guys with swollen or worse, shrinking nuts....cut out the steroids and vasectomy's and it will clear right up....lol

When doing research on this make sure the word "lug" in not left out or your IT folks are going to wonder what you are looking at.

It bothers me that Ford has to be sued to do the right thing and back their product.

14x2.0 for 2014 and prior
14x1.5 for 2015 and later

(Found that out the hard way)

Steel core lug nuts with a chrome, stainless, or aluminum decorative cap that experience corrosion and the resulting swell is hardly a Ford only issue.

I googled "swollen lug" and the resulting suggestion lists had Toyota first, followed by F150, Dodge, Toyota again, and finally Land Rover.

General Motors class action:

Nissan Infiniti owners forum:

I could keep going but got distracted on the MB site, I thought they used lug bolts exclusively. They do, but decorative aluminium caps are swelling on steel bolts too. Can't win for losing, right?

For what its worth, the proposed Ford class action lawsuit was dismissed earlier this year. If you read about it, it rightfully should have been.

I disagree that it should have been. Just because the four companies you listed were idiots also, doesn't mean the consumer should have been financially responsible. Just like the flaking paint. There are certain things you expect after so long and certain things that should never be an issue. Lug nuts should never be an issue in general and your paint shouldn't flake off. Ever. Fade? Rot? Sure. It happens, but not after months or a few years.
I hate class action law suits because the only one that gets rich is the lawyer. If; however, the companies aren't held accountable nothing will ever change.

Shop suggests I replace all of mine because they are shot. (Not a dealer, my go to guy who I trust)

Any suggestions on which ones to get for a 2016 Platinum with the 20” rims? Leaning toward the Gorillas; seems like the best bet. Just not sure exactly which one to get.
