Will a '99 expedition tranny be a straightforward swap to my 2000. Both are 4R100 units for 4X4 models. Does it bolt up to any big block? Mine is a 5.4L. The seller from C/L claims it was professionally rebuilt for $900 and not yet installed. He is selling it to me for $300. Scary a little bit.

AWD, I'll give this a bump until someone hopefully responds with an answer to your question. I just wanted to share my experience about buying craigslist transmissions for my old Mustang (recentl sold). I bought two different A/Ts from guys that said they were "good to go" or "rebuilt with low miles" and they were just junk. It's no fun humping one of those in on the garage floor. I finally got smart and found a guy I trusted to build my original unit.. and once I installed that, I never looked back.

My point is this, if the guy has receipts that show what he spent and the work that was done, and if you can visually inspect the unit to see if looks/feels fresh, I'd do it. If it's just taking the guy's word, beware. Good luck, man!

I would guess it would be a perfect match.

The internals differ from an expy, ford lightning, and turbo diesel but they would still actually bolt up. Sensors and electrical connections would also vary from the different models so it may cause compatibility issues as far as wiring harness and ecu programming. But since your tranny is from the same model and only difference being the year I would say it should work.

I agree with this. $300 sounds to good to be true so.......

I would not consider a 330 cubic inch (5.4) a big block... :)

Big block was the wrong term. Although these days it is one of the larger modern American motors I believe. Thanks for the input.

I'll look at it first and ask for receipts. Thanks.

You wont have any trouble with this. You just cant cross early and late model electronics without proper recalibration in the PCM and some rewiring. Earlier e40d stuff is virtually the same with a little less complicated solenoid packs but they are interchangeable if you know what you are doing. Just stay 99-up with 99 up stuff and its a straight swap. and likewise for pre-99 stuff!
