In order to paint chrome, you do need to scuff it, but the main thing that makes the paint stick is an adhesion promoter. Any auto paint store has this, and I've heard that duplicolor now has it in spray cans.

You may want to check out their web site

Get some of the duplicolor trim paint they sell at Autozone/Advanced. I like how it lays down, as well as the OEM looking black color it has. Since it's for trim, it already has adhesion promotor for plastic.

Also, it's held on a lot better than the Krylon Fusion I tried before this, which started chipping off from bugs hitting it...

I just sanded it a little with a sanding foam block (what I had laying around.)

Came out like this:

On my parents' 250 wiper cowl:

For the chrome, not sure how it would hold up. If anything, make sure you really sand the chrome down before spraying it, to try to get the best adhesion possible.

I like the trim paint because it lays down rather well. As long as you're not holding the sprayer in one spot for too long, it won't run.

You used adhesion promoter then the trim paint, or was the adhesion promoter for the chrome part?

I see. Should still work well :)

You should try to get an emblem overlay for the badge. Maybe black and chrome? Also, maybe look for the black out headlights to complete the look :)

That looks great!! I am inspired now. Want to do the grille, and the chrome surround around the whole upper front. Gloss black to match the wheels. I think I'll mask my Ford emblem though. Gotta keep it real for the haters:rolleyes:
Has anyone done their bumpers with rattle cans? Hold up OK? Not a big fan of chrome on trucks, would love to do F/R bumpers and door rubstrips in gloss black too.
