Just curious , just bought a 1999 eddie bauer in excellent condition . and already have issues. So I thought before I put any money in this truck I would take a pole . SO If you could know what you know before you owned a expedition would you still own one ?

Pretty much any 10 year old vehicle is going to have some issues. Most of the time the decision to sell or trade a vehicle is based on the fact that issues are starting to pop up. So, you have to expect to see a few bugs in the first couple of months that you own it. The fortunate part is that it's unlikely that you are going to have a problem that someone on the forum hasn't had already.

I bought my truck with 110K on it and never gave it a second thought.

No doubt I would still have mine. All makes of cars have their issues, especially on a 10 yr old vehicle. Would you care to guess what fixing a 10 yr old BMW or Mercedes would cost. Can't be pretty!
For you, it all depends on what is wrong though. If you need a new tranny or engine, then it may not have been worth it. But if you have close to 200,000 miles on it, by the law of averages I would expect a good amount of repair may be heading your way.

I agree that the reason people sell their car/truck is because it is starting to have issues, so when buying used you have to expect to have a few things to take care of no matter what the manufacturer/make is. Overall the expedition is a reliable truck, and once you get it all fixed up it should stay that way for awhile. It really depends on how major your issues are. I am very glad I bought my expedition, although I bought it new not used, and I don't ever plan on selling it.

I "stole" my 02 model (used) when gas was $4 a gallon. It has 100k on it now and has an issue here and there. I love the truck and plan to put another 100k on her.

I'm keeping mine for a long, long time. It's a 98 and still looks better than 90% of the vehicles out there. Still has some chrome on it. I def don't mind dropping some bucks into it once in awhile to keep it up. It's an awesome vehicle. Especially if yours is an Eddie Bauer. I love the EB's!!!!

I am just about as new as you are, but I can tell you, I love this truck. It has some problems, but nothing major....and this is coming from a hardcore GM guy.

Also, you can't base your choice on forums. Most people come here to diagnose or fix issues they have with their vehicles. There is ALOT of people who never come on here and are happy as heck with their trucks. I come on cuz I'm a mod freak...Just can't leave it stock.

I've only had mine for about 3 weeks, but im pretty impressed with it. Its a 2000, EB, 5.4l,4x4. Its slower than my sisters 03 Tahoe, but while hers is "Faster" I'm pretty sure my "X" will pull the frame from the body of the Tahoe...lol. Its is roomier than the Tahoe, has more ground clearence, and while mine is an EB and she only has an LS, the X is WAY nicer on the inside too.

All in all, as first impressions go, I'm happy with my desicion to trade our 05 magnum with 116k for this 118k Expedition.

Fix UR Baby

I have owned my 2000 Eddie Bauer Expedition for a year and I have had to replace not one but I am on my second engine. The man who put my first engine took advange of a woman and I am very upset but let me tell you with the way the market is out there it is totally worth putting a second engine in it. I have done some checking and I have a great Expedition with all the bells and whistles. So this time I have gone to an repretible mechanic and am putting in a rebuilt engine. These trucks are heavy duty and are great at towing. Even with a blown head I still took this truck through the mountains to make it home from a vacation. They are so worth fixing and are a fun truck.

Good Luck

I have a 2000 EB with 90,000 on it and a 2004 EB with 75,000 on her and I wouldn't trade either one of them unless it was for another Expedition. These trucks are awesome to own and I have no problem putting a few dollars into them when it's needed and sometimes even when it isn't needed.

I also love my 01. I have a 95 S500 that was the car I always wanted (W140 body style to those mercedes fans on here) and when I first got it had issues as well. The fact that it is a mercedes and the attention I give my cars does mean I take it to a specialty shop rather than a general mechanic. When I first got my expedition I also had work done on it. From my experience make it right and then do minimal amounts of preventative maintenance and it is a strong running vehicle. I enjoy driving it and use it as a daily driver usually over my other cars. The only downside is the mpg which is not a shock but overall it is a great vehicle. I trust it in just about any condition, wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere, and am very comfortabe in it. If it is a truck you enjoy sitting it, fix it and enjoy driving it as it really is a dependabe SUV.

my wife lives with getting a new car every 2/3 years, my 01 has 110,000, she tried talking me into getting rid of it, yeah right i lifted it put bigger tires on, and told her she will have to put me in the ground with it, i will rebuild the entire truck before i let it go, unless a better newer expy comes along, it will be my daily driver

@ ford4me

I BOUGHT A 2000 EXPY BACK IN SEPT. (MY 1ST POSTS ON HERE WAS A DEBATE ON WHICH TRUCK TO GET). I WANTED A BIG RED TRUCK AND THATS WHAT I GOT. WHAT I ALSO GOT WERE PROBLEMS. THE 1ST WEEK I HAD THE TRUCK I HAD TO DUMP MONEY INTO IT TO FIX THE FRONT END. THIS PAST WEEK ITS OFF THE ROAD AGAIN BECAUSE THE 2 TRAILING RODS IN THE REAR BROKE AND PARTS ARE ON BACKORDER TILL LORD KNOWS. ALSO HAVE A SMALL OIL LEAK WHICH ISNT A BIG DEAL AND MAY HAVE TO REPLACE THE CV AXLES IN FRONT.

NOW, I CAME FROM A 95 JEEP CHEROKEE THAT I OWNED FOR 7YRS AND PROBABLY PUT AS MUCH WORK INTO IT THROUGH OUT THE 7YRS AS I AM PUTTING WORK INTO THE EXPY IN 3 MONTHS. I AM TRULY ANNOYED & DISAPPOINTED. MAYBE ITS JUST DUMB LUCK.

IM GOING TO STICK TO IT TILL THE SUMMER, IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER MAJOR ISSUES OFF TO CRAIGSLIST SHE GOES.

have you read the brown wire article here yet, kinda sucks cutting wires but its an easy fix for now, run a switch toggle style to disengage a4wd, you can still go to a4wd if you flip the toggle, and not loose 4 hi/ 4lo problems usually accure from useing them for reasons they are not set up for, like hard off roading in a stock expy, nothing is set up for the pounding it recieves, till modified with lift or am shocks, there nothing more than a family happy SUV. i did alot of damage off roading mine and takeing it places it didnt belong, 15 miles off road with a few jeeps, didnt work out in my favor, really tore things up bad, if they are set up for there purpose they are great, if you want to full a 40 foot camper, thats what they make super dutys for, its a matter of knowing what your getting into, like i said mines not huge, but its capable of alot more now than when it was stock, and i know my limits now, and what it can and cant do
