Yeah, I'm very impressed and curious what it takes to get that payload? Typically I assumed the less options on these trucks the more payload you are going to see. For example, most Platinums I see are in the upper 1400 range. Is the FX4 package adding more payload capacity? I assumed Max models would have less payload than non-Max because of the extra material in body, but is it inverse? More payload on Max models?
Not having the panoramic sunroof buys you the extra 200 lbs of payload. Glass is a hell of a lot heavier than aluminum.

I think all MAX get the HD springs regardless given they are longer and likely packing more which makes sense.
When I was shopping, the FX was Hard to decipher Regarding what exactly it was packaged with. No doubt the giant glass roof is heavy. I wish my Platinum was just a small standard sun roof. Putting boats and gear up top is a constant worry about dropping a clip or strap and cracking it.

I’m pretty sure that all MAX do not get the HD tow springs. I looked up VIN 1FMJK1HT0KEA13979 which is a Max on parts.ford.com and it showed as having the standard rear springs.

My guess is its also 18” wheels and a base package XLT. My 2019 XLT 4x2 w/Tow package, (non-max) (no sunroof) with 20” rims is 1670.

Right above the sticker he stated it was a max with the FX4 package. So yes to the 18” rims, but also skid plates. The careful reader will note he has the captains chairs which may add to payload as he doesn’t have the weight of the middle seat.

Does Ford have a "payload" calculator on their site? If not they should. Payload capacity is really important to future buyers when shopping. Having to go around to different lots and open doors to see the sticker is so antiquated.

My 2019 Platinum 4x4 is 1487 lbs. It has 2nd row captain chairs, hd tow, the RSE, floor liners and cargo mat. Platinum has standard 22" wheels and pano sunroof.

Maybe we could start a database with payload weights and configurations to determine what to expect. I am sure many of the options really don't make a difference, where others like the panoramic roof do. I think the 4x4's have a higher GVWR as do the Max's. My GVWR is 7450 lbs. 3375 lb Front GAWR and 4380 lb Rear GAWR.

I still want to know why some of us have the 3550 FAWR with a 7720 GVWR while others have the 3375 FAWR and a 7450 GVWR...
Think that is a difference between Standard and Max on the FAWR. An eye opener for sure to see everyone's door stickers! Also, I'd think the lowest payload is a Standard Platinum with no tow with all the fancy (heavy) shit in it. Maybe an XLT/FX4 max combo with 2nd row captains chairs no pano roof is the highest? My limited has seat heating in the 2nd row captains, not sure if leather/cloth matters much there for weight...

Really? Payload capacity on a SUV is a non issue. Towing might be....but
Is it a Limited or an XLT?

It's a huge issue for me as I tow an RV. It's sometimes the difference between whether someone goes or not on a trip when taking extended family. My current 10' Eddie Bauer Expy with HD tow only has a capacity of 1402lb. When you add up trailer tongue weight, cargo, passengers I'm over capacity in a jiffy. Took three teenage nephews on a trip this summer. With their weight and I in the vehicle, no cargo, we were over the capacity by about 100lb. Had to not invite the 4th nephew, let me tell you that did not go over well with the wife.

Looking to upgrade to an 18' or 19' model next year so I'm paying a lot of attention to this. I would love to be in the 1700 payload range. I know I'd like a Limited, non Max, 2x2, HD tow package. Would take a Platinum if they had more payload, but doesn't seem to be the case.

My FX4 Max with HD Tow

1900lbs payload is higher than my 2020 ranger truck ... which is a stripped down low tech speedy two seater that just happens to include 6ft truck bed. I only bought it because My kid needed his first car and I wanted to avoid buying a utility trailer for furniture and yardwork.... but its limited to 1800lbs, if I remember correctly.

1900lbs in expedition is astounding.... sort of like finding someone with the heavy duty high payload F150 XLT rated for 2200-2500lbs.00136466883aafd02650527153bf1ac0.jpg

I have a payload of 1767lbs for my
2019 Expedition Max XLT, 202A, 4x4
HD Tow Package, no panoramic sunroof, 20” alum wheels. The seats are not leather (ActiveX) and 2nd row are bench seats.
It does have the Driver Assistance package and Nav. Other numbers are:
GVWR: 7720
Rear GAWR: 4380
Front GAWR: 3550

When purchasing I did not realize the variation in this number but I have started towing a travel trailer and having this payload budget has been helpful. My main efforts have been more on keeping an eye on the Rear GAWR and keeping the tongue weight below the 900lb limit.

Interesting.. so Max and/or 4x4 must provide more payload with less overall towing? My 2019 is very close to yours (4x2, and non-Max) with 1670:
