How do you like your gen y? How much of a difference did it make?

If you’re familiar with the wheelbase rule of thumb even a Max might not be enough wheelbase for those. First 120” gets you 20’ of trailer and every 4” above 120” gets you 1 additional foot of trailer length. I also don’t know the tongue weight of those but I bet they’re heavy enough that your Expedition would basically need to be empty to tow them.

Hello

I have a 30TT. Hitch weight 750. I’m currently on a outing right now from CO to AZ. I have a 2016 EL, E2 WDH from RV dealer. Heading south in CO in the “High Gust” area before walsenburg the wind was high and variable. When towing I don’t do the speed limit. I go about 5 below or more. With the limit at 75, the winds had me down to 54-60. That’s when I felt the sway was under control. 65-70 then a side strong gust of when didn’t feel good. I was still in control but with abrupt sway, had to think about not over correcting. Once I dropped to speed I was fine. On the down hill grades my temps didn’t get higher than “normal” I was engine braking also. I had cruise set and let the Ecu take care of it. My TT is smaller than yours but just my thoughts. Also get to the scale and weight. I’ve attached a photo of my weight after filling up and passengers loaded and ready to go. My rear is over but my gross is under. I also have sumo springs on the rear. Once you see your weights your have a better idea.

I'm not sure what EL trim you have, but your rear appears to be substantially overweight and you need more weight shifted forward as well. You can reduce tongue weight by loading heavy items and your personal possessions in the trailer. Unless you upgraded your trailer tires, they're likely only rated to 65 mph. Dropping speed to deal with high wind is normal. With no wind, my 7,600 GVWR trailer is stable up to 75 mph. When it's very windy, I've dropped down to 55 to 60 mph. Safe travels.

I have some stuff to move around. I was also hauling non mailable Christmas gifts to AZ. Should be more inline on the way back to CO. According to the sticker I’m 300lb over or so.

Also thinking I could raise the bars to shift some weight up there since it looks like I still have a couple hundred free pounds up there.

I had to adjust my hitch head angle and bars after my first few trips because we kept acquiring more things. Mattress upgrade, television, tools, portable dump tank, etc. You can spitball the weight distribution by measuring the fender drop before and after the bars are on. The front should get 50% of its rise back. It's not perfect, because it doesn't tell you whether your tongue load is within the 10% to 15% range, but it's better than outright guessing.

Checked the tires and speed rating. You made me think about that. I had checked before but forgot. Adding it here. So now rearrange some cargo and should be GTG.

Ok, great feedback- will try changing trailer tires and tuning hitch setup first. GD 265bh came with Westlake China bomb tires. The toyhauler seems to have better.
