I wonder if this is related to the TSB on the wiring of the blower resistor, or totally separate.

I read the NHTSA post - which has documents from Ford attached.

Ford believes the fires are originating in the front HVAC blower motor (not the rear HVAC blower motor).

The recall will instruct the Ford dealers to replace the HVAC front blower motor. I suspect if they find damaged wiring or connectors (burnt, melted, etc.) - they will change those too.

And of course the parts to correct the defect are not currently available and will not be until first quarter of 2023.

As someone who has purchased mostly Ford vehicles since 1989, 22 of them. I've become really disappointed in the quality of the companies products in recent years. My 2014 Expedition had so many issues, (some unresolvable) I traded it in 2017 with 22,000 miles on it. Our 2017 has been in to fix a rear hatch window leak and while better, it still leaks. The master cylinder failed at 20,000 miles and now this.

How did you determine the parts to correct the defect are not available until the first quarter of 2023?

EDIT: I read all the documents on the NHTSA website regarding this recall and saw that Ford has stated this. One of the documents show the new replacement parts will be manufactured in Brazil.

Availability of updated climate control blower motor has been revised to 2nd Quarter 2023, provision of rental vehicles for owners with unique circumstances is now possible when pre-approved by Ford.

Updated Notice to Dealers is posted here.

I had not received the notice that the 'parts' would not be available now until the 2nd quarter?
Should I still be calling the dealer to find out what exactly is going on??

No second letter relating to the later-than-expected availability of the improved/remedy blower motor has been sent to owners.

The Supplement #1 notification in the above-linked post -- also included below -- was only sent to dealers...

If your vehicle's blower motor is currently exhibiting any signs of malfunction, then by all means contact your dealer and they'll install the interim blower motor, and then your vehicle will receive an improved/remedy blower motor once they are available.

If your vehicle's blower motor is working fine, then you can consider contacting your dealer closer to June April.

I will be posting an update here when Ford sends their Supplement #2 notice to dealers announcing the improved/remedy blower motor availability along with the ordering process to receive them.

If you click on the "Watch" button and opt to receive e-mail notifications about this discussion thread, then you'll be aware and able to schedule your vehicle into the dealer for the final Safety Recall service action.

Good luck!

Just another example of Ford’s miserable poor quality and service.

This safety recall supplement should be sent to all owner’s of the 2015 - 2017 vehicles subject to the recall (which proves the first letter sent to the owners contains dubious information).

Thanks for posting.

Ford should be notifying owners. If the replacement part is not available to the end of the 2nd quarter 2023 - that means the customer’s wait for the part will be 10 months!
