I don't have experience with pre 2015 Expedition models, but I can share that I've put 50k on my 2016 EL XLT and have been very happy with it (I went with the '16 over a '15 purely because of the Sync3 upgrade). I get 15 - 17 mpg in mixed driving, 8 - 12 mpg towing, and 19 mpg was my highest unloaded freeway mileage. I've towed a car carrier across country, made several trips through the mountains with a loaded 6x10 cargo trailer, and it handled everything just fine. The acceleration and traction are great, and the ride is comfortable on long trips. At 148k miles, the maintenance I've needed to perform included OEM radio & GPS antenna, spark plugs, coils, clockspring, turbo valve & solenoid, cam sensors, brakes, and struts (Bilstein) - all work I was able to do myself.

I don't care for the looks of the gen 4 body, but since I have several more years of service left on this gen 3, I don't need to worry for a while what my next ride will be.

I’ve got 2014 with full tow package. Used primarily for towing camping trailer…3500 lbs. Bought from Enterprise at 35k, now has 78k. So far no issues. Always on top of maintenance. Love the power fold down 3rd row seats!

quite happy with 2016.. there are issues for the future, but nothing crazy or uncommon. I usually upgrade whenever parts replacements allow. if you like to giggle on occasion when accelerating, the ecoboost will give you that, especially with a tune. I love the hill climbing capability at low RPM without thinking of revving out a somewhat weaker v8 just to do the same. but v8 exhaust note has way more potential that the vacuum cleaner sounding ecoboost.

My wife has a 2013 King Ranch, 4wd, all options I believe. Less than 56,000 miles. Perfect. Front sensors, heated and cooled seats Front and rear, I believe. Rear wing windows open and close, auto running boards and moon roof. Last I checked Carmax was offering 16+. She is considering trading for a medium size SUV. I really hope so. She falls in love with her cars. Traded an 87 Tornado for a 97 Cadillac STS, then an 04 Expedition and finally the 13. Time for a change.
