Hi all, my first post here!
Currently I have an Explorer that needs replacing due to rust. I have found a 2000 Expy that I like. Its white, non EB but has air ride, 70,000 miles, leather, etc. I haven't seen it yet, going to be seeing it tomorrow. Supposedly its in excellent shape, rust free with a pristine interior. I checked Edmunds, KBB, and NADA online for pricing and it varies a lot between them so I am asking you all what you think about the value. I think I can get them down to the low five thousand range. Is this an ok price if it is in as described shape?

Thanks!

I would go by the references you all ready listed. Seems there are many new members that purchased 2000 expys recently maybe they can chime in what they paid and condition. 5.4 vs 4.6 and 2wd vs 4wd also makes a difference

I also went from an Explorer to an Expedition but because I needed something bigger. I was very happy with the upgrade because the Expy is much more comfortable and spacious. The engine is also a lot smoother and quieter than the 4.0 V6.

Correction... was a lot quieter than the 4.0 V6!!

If I could do it all over again, I would try to find a 99+ expedition 4x4 with either engine, but I would prefer the 4.6 for reliability, the 5.4 is just fine though. it sounds like you found a good truck, I like non eb's for the fact that they look cleaner without the fenderflares! listen for ticking and piston slap just incase! test everything including all a/c functions, all windows, and the big back windows if they open, make sure all key holes work (the tailgate keyhole). listen for squeaking in the front suspension and talk the price down if you can!

A month ago I bought my 2001 EB 4x4 for $6700. I don't know if that was the cheapest I could find one, but it was exactly what I was looking for, and the dealer gave me exactly what I wanted on my trade. Anyway, I'm seeing non EB's locally advertised for less than 5 grand on occasion, but don't know the condition. If the one you're looking at is truly pristine as you say, then lower 5's can't be too bad. I mean that's cheap for a pristine huge 4x4 people carrier.

The only thing I made sure to watch out for was the air ride... That can be an expensive PITA once it gets some age on it, as I learned on a Lincoln several years ago. Personally I prefer coil springs to air ride, but some say air is worth the trouble.

Well the 2000 didn't work out, it was pretty rough and they wanted almost five grand for it. BUT I did buy one today.... it's a 97 with 130,000 on the clock. Drives nice, needs tires and its just a tad rusty. Not bad for the age in central NY at all. It was taken care of. I checked all the areas suggested and found nothing... rear coils may have been replaced from the looks. Also the owner just replaced the transfer case with a reman last month. It needs a heater core but thats about it from what I see. Waiting on a lien release at the moment but the deal should be done in a few days. AND the best part - the price was really right!

jrjr, for $5K, you could have bought mine. It would have been a little bit of a drive for you, but I am sure it would have been a bit better than what you got. But then, not sure how you would feel about a lifted Expy though.

Good price! :)

Thanks.... and its as good as those I have looked at with prices of thousands more than this one. It will need a few things as they all do but it will be fun working on it. Found a you tube video on changing the heater core... gonna go watch that now.

Cheers!
