Engine swap 5.4 for 4.6

Has anyone replaced a a 4.6 l with a 5.4 l in their Expedition? I want to change my 2002 Expedition 4.6Lwith 157000 km with a 2003 5.4 L. I have a leaking head gasket oil onl;y, and i figure that replacing the heads wil cause oil consumption, and I do not want a remanufactured engine either. I know that in 2003 Ford fixed the head gasket problem with the 5.4 l. Any comments or alternatives would be appreciated

Has anyone replaced a a 4.6 L with a 5.4 L in their Expedition or F-150? I want to change my 2002 Expedition 4.6L with 95 000 miles on it with a used 2003 5.4 L. What are the modifications if any to install this motor.
Any comments or alternatives would be appreciated
thanks

i think 2003 they also changed to a 3 valve 5.4 so i dont know what all the differance are but i would say a 5.4 from a 2000-2002 would be a direct bolt up but dont quote me on that. i do know you would have to get your computer rebuilt. why would you want to do the swap and why wouldnt you just get a mild built 4.6 and have the same power. and depending on where you live it is illegal to change the motor out of a car to a bigger motor

I believe the 3 valve triton 5.4 was introduced in 2004, The 4.6L i currently own has the well known aluminum head gasket oil leak. Im looking into the option of changing the motor if nessary, and if it goes as far as that why not up grade to the 5.4L if it is a direct bolt in. Im looking to stay with a stock ford motor without any modifications.
Thx

From Wikipedia:

The 2003 Expedition shared the Ford U platform for 8,300 lb (3,800 kg) towing and a more refined ride. Popular new features included power folding third-row seats and turn-signal mirror lights.

The base 4.6 L V8 engine was dropped in 2005 as the 5.4 L V8 was updated with 24-valve technology.

AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™ is optional for 2005.

The Expedition uses the code U1 in the 5th and 6th positions of the VIN.

Engines:

* 2003-2005 4.6 L V8, 232 hp (173 kW)
* 2003-2005 5.4 L V8, 260 hp (194 kW)
* 2005-2006 5.4 L 24-valve V8, 300 hp (223 kW)

I recommend finding a complete donor truck from your same year model including the harness and computer if you go the 5.4 conversion route. You may also need to swap the transmission to do it right……... The 03 and 04 Expeds still have the 2-valved motor but the block was changed on these to the new LOW NVH design and different power steering pump placement for the new frame structure.

By the way, there is nothing wrong with a remanufactured engine. If it is a builder with a good reputation then it will be better than it was new for this reason. A new engine block will "season" with its many heating and cooling cycles of normal operation and factory tolerances will vary. By boring a "seasoned" block the clearances and other tolerances will stay more true than they ever could with a spanking new piece of iron. If the heads have new guides or guide liners they are probably better than when they left the factory as well.

I just feel like people have an image of some greasy mechanic slapping together parts to "rebuild" an engine. Reputable engine remanufactures look more like a hospital than a mechanic shop.
