To me they really don't sound that much different before or after.

Agree...it's not much of a difference.

Without the Resonator it's slightly (very slightly) louder and slightly deeper tone, but only when you are outside the vehicle and standing near the exhaust. Inside the vehicle you can't tell a difference...there is no drone and no difference in exhaust volume.

If someone who has done the Mod tells you it now sounds like a V8...they have either forgotten what a V8 sounds like, or they have never owned a V8. And I find it very unlikely someone will say wow, what a sound! At the most, someone (a car/Expy person) may comment on the exhaust dumping out the side and the nice look of the tip.

To me, the best thing about the Mod is I no longer have the cold exhaust steam/cloud interfere with my view out the rear window and I will not have the exhaust near my face when hooking/unhooking any trailer equipment.

Those are probably the best reasons for doing it. I notice in the morning when it's cold and I'm backing up sometimes the cloud makes it hard to see where I'm going particularly when its dark and the backup lights hit it.

Just finished mine. Agree on the reasons, listed in order of importance to me:
1. Exhaust in face while hooking trailer.
2. Getting rid of Ugly.
3. Sound (which did not change much).

Notes on my experience:

My '16 has about 45,000 miles on it, and 2.5 years of driving on the Gulf beaches once a week on average. I had to drop the spare tire and remove the heat shield between the spare and the exhaust to get enough room to remove the clamp. Then it took a lot of penetrating oil (Aero Kroil) and a 3' cheater bar to get the nut to turn. You will need a deep 15mm socket for that nut, although I got away with using a 9/16" without rounding off the nut. My DeWalt impact driver was of no use, even though I have broken free a lot of nuts that I couldn't budge otherwise with that thing.

The clamp was not reusable, as there is a tack weld of some sort that prevented me from removing it from the old exhaust. I used two 3" exhaust clamps, one to attach the 14" 45 degree elbow to the old pipe and another for the exhaust hanger. I then used a 9" black powder coated resonator tip from Spectre Performance.

Photos attached. Note: I have a 2" lift, so your truck may look different from the rear.

Finally got to do this, removed the old heavy (17lbs) resonator, installed pipe and tip (5"). Looks so much better, sounds better - only if you're right next to the exhaust. Major benefits like everyone said, no fumes in my face hooking up trailer and loading the truck in the winter!

It's funny I identify the 15 to 17s by that exhaust. Now I'll have to look for the fog lamps, lol.

Rented a Dodge Ram this week and boy-o does that hemi sound good. It drives very nice too. The sound is not worth it to buy a Fiat.

Anyway to get that pipe out the side, straight instead of angled?
Just change the angle of the pipe you buy. The Walker that was suggested is 45°. I just did this again on my second Expy today. I'm going to change it to a 60° pipe like Walker 51125. I think it will look better. It's angled down a little more than I like right now.
