98Expy, trust me, it is those metal caps on the spindle nut. You can take a pair of pliers and rip the metal to get the caps off. I've seen guys ripping their hair out trying to find this problem.

Even though they seem tight as hell? I'm sure they serve a function. So to test this, would it work if I put a hunk of duct tape on them so they can't "vibrate"?

98, you can try that and atleast see if the noise quiets down. If it does, then it would confirm the pieces are your problem.

tmajikman, you wouldn't want me as president. The first line of business would be to enact a new amendment to the constitution that would essentially say that the money the senators and congressmen make is dependent on the amount of money that the US is in the black with. They would each make say 0.05%. They get this country in the black, they make big money. They get it in the red due to wasteful spending, they don't get paid squat. They raise the taxes, they won't get re-elected because the general populous will be pissed off at them. Makes them work for their money and think about what they are signing into "law".

Sound like a good idea? DOes to me. BUt then, it makes too much sense and would never get approved. What am I thinking? Gotta hate simple, straight forward thinking.

Granted, law #2 would be making it so all laws applied to the senators/congressmen as they do to the general people and there will be no exceptions to eliminate anyone. IT applies to all american citizens. You are not an american citizen, sorry, you don't get the bennies that the american citizen pays for. Very simple, again. Yet, I will never see that get enacted as long as I am alive. I'm not a betting man, but I will put $100 on that.

I took my Expedition on a fact finding mission trying to figure out the noises it makes. The ringing noise stops when I slow down to about 15mph or less. So to rule out a pulley, I was going about 30mph with no one around. I put the truck in neutral and shut it off. The sound remained.

To me, it almost has to be my brakes, or a wheel bearing. With the engine off, I can't think of anything else that could make noise while I am rolling. Especially because it won't make the noise when the engine is running but I am sitting still.

What do you all think? And how can my brake wear indicator be making noise when I don't have the brake pedal pushed?

Man I just don't see how those stamped nuts can make noise if they don't move. I did not get a chance this weekend to try though. What is there purpose. You are saying to remove them, but they must have a job, right?

As for your plan to pay Congress, trust me, they'd find a way to scam that too.

Think of it this way. A buddy of mine had a business he was trying to sell. He found a buyer in the spring. The deal was, the buyer would pay him in the spring, but my friend would run the business until the end of summer, then turn over the keys. The initial purchase price, plus whatever profit he made over the summer was what his to keep. Do you think he made any good LONG TERM investments in upkeep on the business? No, he only made enough repairs and inventory purchases to keep it going until he cashed out at the end of summer. He didn't screw the guy over, but he certainly wasn't buying any brand new equipment or buying a year supply of anything. He basically had to keep everything going for 4 months without really improving anything.
