1997 expedition drivers side mirror not working, passenger side works fine. question could it be the switch or is the motor shot in the mirror itself. thanks

Any time you have an electrical problem, anything in the circuit can be at fault. You determine what is at fault is by diagnosing the entire circuit piece by piece. In your case it can be the motor, switch, connectors or harness.
Do you have access to a test light or DVM?
