Anyone else noticing rough shifting between 20-40 mph? We've had a couple of REALLY hard shifts...so hard we thought something broke. We weren't doing anything crazy or gunning it. It feels like it is hunting for a gear. It's only an issue at the lower speeds. Anything above 40 mph is like buttah. Thoughts?

Hmm I’d take it to the dealer and show them what’s going on, often new transmissions are buggy. When the 3rd gen was released in 2007/ 2008 we had the same issues, the trucks “bumped” when slowing down on a downshift and shifted hard if it had do downshift and upshift quickly after.... my truck still does it sometimes.... lots of people got it improved with a software update.

1500+ miles over varying speeds. I'll mention it when I take it back in for my continual phantom liftgate opening problem. #bewaretheMondaybuilds

I notice a rough downshift sometimes, mostly from 5th to 4th. Not sure what to make of it.

Theirs a Ford Tsb bulletin for 09-17 models Id#SSM46451. It involves an updated main control valve body procedure. Hope that helps.

I notice that mine clunks into reverse sometimes when I shift from Park to reverse when backing out of my garage. Guess we'll see if a software update is provided at some point.

Try this to make sure it is not a learned crappy shift point.

I tested both the 400hp and the 375hp....the 375hp does shift more rough. The 400hp is more smooth.

Ford has an update out for the 2018 F150 for these exact complaints (slow shifts when cold, sluggish, hard down shift/up shifts) but according to my dealer it has not made it over to the Expedition powertrain yet...which seems dumb since they are so similar. I'd keep a lookout for it.

Reviving old thread here, but I'm experiencing something that sounds similar with my '18 Limited. At just under 15k miles currently.

For first several months of driving, shifting was super smooth. Has become much less so over time. Generally more noticeable shifts, but particularly when transmission skips gears...depending on acceleration, speed, going uphill/downhill, etc., the shifts can be occasionally be really hard and accompanied by really loud/harsh noise.

Had it in to the dealer recently. They said they did a reprogram, but tech also said he drove it and couldn't reproduce. My wife and I still notice the behavior and we'll have to take it back in and get someone to drive with us.

Anyone else come across this and have additional insight to resolving?

Old thread, I know. But, in case it's of use to anyone or anyone can explain why...Ever since I had the work done as noted in "Active Park Assist Disabled" thread for seemingly unrelated issue, the shifting is back to being smooth again.

Ignore my previous post - the rough shifting returned over time. I suspect, though don't know it for certain, the dealer reset the computer to re-learn the shifting and that's why it was "as good as new" for awhile. Unfortunately, it didn't stay that way.

I hope they checked the fluid level. Many shift issues can happen with improper level.

My 3-5 shift is also rough. When I get really bothered from it, I use the -/+ buttons to go down to 2 (your max gear is now 2) in red lights, then I use the + to shift manually to 3,4,…10.

I guess the ultimate solution to this would be to change the solenoid pack.
