Trans cooler...

I started this in another thread, but it seems to of poo pooed out...

I have the factory heavy duty trans cooler on my Expedition already, should I put an additional one on it or is the factory one enough? Mine is similar to this.

I pull a 33' Travel Trailer, 7600 GVWR, but we only keep it around 6400 pounds.

Honestly, a 7000 lb +, "travel trailer", long distance towing you need a F250 diesel or an Excursion. I think that's why your other thread poo pooed out ....

I would agree I need to get a bigger truck, but that isn't in the cards now. I can't afford it... Why else did I spend the $ and put an engine in this thing. But I never tow over 60mph even on the interstate, plus never pull further than 100 miles until we get a bigger truck. I plan on getting an Excursion.

Isn't my trans the same in the excursion? I think its a 4R70W...

It tows my trailer fine, don't have any issues other than not knowing my trans temp, I think I am gonna order a bluetooth OBD2 adapter today from Amazon to be able to view it?

You need to know if the trans temp is in the OBDII data stream to be able to read it. It is for my '08. I had to add custom Ford PIDs to Torque Pro (the program I use) I am not sure about yours

The transmission temp is in the PCM data stream. If you have ForScan it can display it if selected. Probably any scan tool that has the Ford PID package in it can display all the PCM data. The Excursions had the 4R100 and the 5R110 tranny options. One a 4 speed automatic and the other a 5 speed automatic.

This is the one I bought, and installed the Torque app on my phone. Waiting to get the OBD2 Bluetooth adapter now. Anyone know the PID for a 2003 Expedition?

you should be good to go. my ole '97 EB 4X4 has the factory-equipped version trailer tow package.
I pulled my Featherlite, car, motorcycle, and gear coast-to-coast several times with no problems.
I did upgrade the trans pan, added a trans temp gauge, and inline B&M filter prior to the trans cooler..

I had the tow package on my 97 too. This expedition seems to pull better than my old one anyways. Just making sure my trans cooler is big enough to pull such a pretty large amount and keep temps down. I got the Torque app on my phone now, waiting to receive the dongle from Amazon.
