Transmission compatibilty 1998/2001

Hello everyone, im new to this forum hope someone can help me out. Just bought 2001 5.4 xlt exped with bad transmision. Ive got a 1998 5.4 exped with bad engine block. Tthe trans code on door jam of both vehicles say code (e). Does that really mean they are the same and can i put the 1998 trans into the 2001? Thanks
