I have a set of General Grabbers that need replacing. It caused me a few embarrassing moments in the middle of the snow storm here. Expedition is more of a passenger vehicle than an offroader so I suspect chunky tires won't look good on it. At the same time, I don't want to go with street tires either. Need pretty good snow traction. I was looking at the Goodyear Wranglers. It does have a rather aggressive thread but not too much. So what is the middle ground?

hello, my name is Patrick, I have the NITTO TERRA GRAPPLER G2 tires on my 02 expedition, I've had them on my expedition about two years now, they look good, ride good, and they're not noisy either they're really good in snow I've gone to work in 6 inches of snow had my expedition in 4wd did really good didn't spin, it didn't even slip none and I even been on the road when there was sleet and freezing rain. and if you want to check them out go to WWW.CARID.COM that's where I ordered them from and I'm very pleased with them.

I’ve had great experience with Michelin LTX Defenders and just got Falken WildPeak HT 02 that have a similar tread pattern as the Michelin but have some rugged look on the sidewalls. These are in P265/70r18 size. [IMG]

Not sure I agree that it is just a passenger vehicle and aggressive tires won’t look good.

It may be subjective, but I love the look of mine with the beefier tires.

It's a good thing that you consider the look of your tires paramount if you're considering the Goodyear Wranglers since performance-wise they're pretty shitty.

I have the grabber hts60 on my 03 and they're on the way out treadlife wise...approx 5/32, and just handled 10" of snow just fine. I made a 60mi round trip in the mess without issue, drove slower than normal of course but was never faced with being stuck or not in control.

Thr wrangler line has a few different models. They have the regular model, the trail runner, the duratrack, etc. They get progressively more noisy/blocky tread.

I've never ran a Goodyear tire I've liked fwiw and the SRA imo is the worst tire that exists. I've never actually been terrified of how my vehicle would behave on a tire before those. It wasn't the expedition but I couldn't imagine it being good on anything the performance was so bad in anything but hot, dry pavement.

Costco is running a deal on the Michelin Defender LTX. I was quoted $719 out the door for a set in my stock size. That's a heck of a price for that tire.

The next contender is the Firestone Destination LE3. I am sure that has a few distractors too. It has a pretty tame thread pattern but better snow traction.
Interesting, I have Grabbers too but I do get stuck in snow relatively easy. They are worn though. Have you considered Firestone Destination LE3? If my source is correct they are number one replacement tire for Expeditions.

I have the 3/2 Ready lift installed. Wheels are Black Rhino Chambers. Tires are Nitto Ridge Grapplers — 285/70 R18 or ~34x11.2.
