How did you prep it, steel wool, sand paper (what grit), cleaner before spray, plastic adhesion promoter, kind of paint (brand) (flat, semi, gloss)and did you use a clear coat with a hardner

I did mine with bed liner to match the rest of the truck. I just made sure it was clean and sprayed. But if your just painting it I would prime self etching , paint and clear coat

I just washed mine w/ soap and water and then dried it and used some Rustoleom bedliner from AutoZone. I did about 2 coats and so far it's doing good and looks great.

all mine is at least 3 coats, but i would do one lightly, let it dry a little bit, do another one, let it dry. then go all out and spray everything thick and let it dry. haha holds up great. towed out a lot of trucks in the desert and not one chip or peal. this stuff is great. that was on the hitch.

generally speakin yes i would use adhesion promoter if usin automotive paint. ever wondered what was different about krylon fusion? it has adhesion promoter built in. i know lots of people that have painted the plasit caps on their bumpers and it did last for awhile but when it did start comin off it came off in weird random chunks. theoretically speaking automotive paint does not stick to plastic too well it will stay on for awhile cause when you spray it it contours around the object etc. theirs lasted till the started pressure washing etc. i just sayin if your gonna do it do it right the first time. and only do it once. i used to work for space age auto paint (owner is joe shoen aka the owner of uhaul) and a automotive body/paint shop. i have fixed alot of plastics that people "just" sprayed without adhesion promoter
