Who else drove a tractor with no brakes pulling hay wagons every summer and just downshifted to slow down and shut it off in gear to stop? Luckily I never saw a car at the 4 way stop from one of the farmer's hayfiled in the 6 summers I worked there during MS/HS & college. Also so redneck you never asked why they never fixed the brakes & accepted it as normal? Belive it or not I'm a NYS redneck. They exist.

-Go the wrong wind direction with the manure spreader on? You do that only once. LOL

-Take the dare to p1ss on an electric fence?

-have a 68 Chevy in 1989 for college with piston rings so bad, you added oil and pulled the plugs to clean them once a month because you couldn't afford a motor rebuild? Your friends always wondered why there were no lound bangs with all the blue smoke pouring out of it.

-used the oil from your Dad's mechanic friend's shop. The mechanic dripped the last bit out of cans into a barrel. You had no idea what grade or brand you were getting but it was free!

-parked pointed down on hills to start your car by rolling & popping the clutch because you couldn't afford a new battery?

Yes, anymore we don’t really own our land, we’re just leasing it from the counties and cities we live in.......so they can tell us what to do with our land.
Shoot, can’t even put up a moonshine still, so a mans gotta go deep in the woods just to be able to keep the customers happy. Enuff said, happy truck’in.....

Anyone remember the years when every town had a place that sold rebuilt starters, alternators and carburetors?

There was a guy in Far Rockaway named Dicky Lynch. All his rebuilt crap was painted blue and it all cost $15. His carbs were so bad, you'd change 'em in his parking lot and usually go through his entire inventory looking for one that was better than the old one.

"This one's bad too Dick, give me another."

Or the junkyards that sold batteries that were stolen from cars the night before? They'd pay $3 for them and sell them for $5. Usually when the cut wires and terminals were still attached they were good. You'd short them with a screwdriver and if they gave a good spark, they were worth the five bucks.

Wow, things really are tougher in New York! I'm 11 years older than you, and never dealt with a guy like Dickey, or a wrecking yard for batteries. Didn't you guys have auto parts stores, or something better! I even bought from dealerships when the price was right, and parts were still available. Stuff I bought from a wreckers was only if way cheaper than anywhere else. I remember one situation, where a wreckers wanted $70.00 for an emergency brake cable used. I called a dealership that with my discount working at Montgomery Ward, was actually $55.00 new. I learned you always call around, and trust no one!

You have to pay close attention to your local authorties making the laws for zoning. Many are adopting HOA rules for their jurisdiction. Old friend of mine couldn't add a room to his home because it would violate his prescribed green space ratio. Since he didn't pay attention an ordinace was passed within the city limits telling home owners how much green space compared to building and driveway footprint they must have.

Anyway here's my hero. Town turned down his request to build a large garage on his land, he puts up a 1st amendment protected statue letting them know what he thinks.

Tough zoning is a part of life here on Long Island. But living now with idiots with a few dollars is far worse than living with idiots without money. Everyone wants to make his cape into a mini-mansion. Zoning helps keep those baffoons in line.

Hell, the whole idea of zoning is unAmerican

Screw that... if the social contract goes the way of the Soviet Union, we're at least owed the PERKS as well (free education, healthcare, pensions and benefits, absolute public order).

Authoritarian overregulation without the guaranteed benefits is bullsh!t. Selling your liberties to a nanny state for next to nothing, without reaping the enormous security and stability normally included, is utter madness.

I totally get that your neighbor is a tattle tailing little weasel but,
Didn't you agree to the terms of the HOA either at the closing of your house or in the rental agreement? Yes you did otherwise you wouldn't be there.
So I would like to know how they are unamerican when you are the one breaking the agreement?
Maybe you moved there for a reason such as, Better schools, closer to work, cheaper, still at home with parents whatever the reason you need to suck it up buttercup and remember the reason you are doing it for. Because the hatchet plan is not going to work out for you or the reason you are doing it for in the first place.

Sure you do. Buy a small island off the Atlantic, or Pacific coast. Then your in international waters, and do whatever you want. No HoA regulations out there!
