True.

I let it run. The downgrade takes 10 minutes. Format 1-2, but the install of 20136 with 19 Maps takes a bit.

Should be a separate drive.

Easy peasy. Anyone remotely thinking about this don't worry.

You need one (1) USB card. I used a 32G version. If you have two (2) it's more convenient as it will save some waiting.

Go to CyanLabs.net, download the new installer, run it and follow the prompts. You'll need some information from your Sync system if, like me, you did this last Fall or this Spring as the latest version from that upgrade won't work so you need to "down grade" first, then "up grade" with the latest version.

1. Install the down grade on the USB drive. Take it to the truck and with the engine running insert it in the USB port inside the glove compartment. Bottom port worked for me. Watch for the display of "Upgrading System" or similar on the panel. Come back in 15 minutes and wait a couple for the "Remove USB drive" prompt.

2. While waiting for #1 to install go back to the CyanLabs software that's probably still on your PC screen and down load the revision you want. Select 0119 maps, the latest. Install this on a second 32G USB drive and when this is done go back to the truck where the first install should be done.

You can reuse the first USB drive, just less convenient.

No separate Reformat, that's all in the second download.

I turned the truck Off and then back on, then inserted the new update USB drive. This takes nearly 40 minutes. Done.

If you've never done this just go to step 2.

I have a 2016 XLT. I've seen some people have to upgrade their USB hub in the center console to get Apple Carplay to work with Sync 3 version 3. Do I still need to do this with 3.4? I bought it today, not knowing there was an even newer update and if I don't need to upgrade this part, I'll take it back before I open it. Once you open, you can't return.

If you have a 2016, you will need the newer Hub for CarPlay to work period under most circumstances.

What version of Sync do you have now, and does Carplay work?

I have 3.0 I believe. I just started downloading the files onto my usb drive for the 3.4 version. Sync does not currently work, but 3.0 did alleviate some of the issues I was previously having.

It used to give me some "This device is not compatible with Sync blah blah blah" error every time I plugged in my phone. Then it was crash Waze when plugged in to the USB port too. At least that's fixed.

I originally came here to find a How-To on removing my hub. It seems they did things a little different with the Expeditions than other models. Looks like I have to remove the damn center console to get to the tabs to release it from it's spot.

Edit: I figured out the version. Probably confusing what I was saying. My thought was that since it was Sync 3 and I got the 3.0 update (I didn't look at it nor remember exactly), that it must have been version 3.3...I've corrected it to the correct 3.0.

Yeah, Not sure on the install. I had a 17 Ex, now a 2020. My Edge was a 16, so had to swap that one. Helped several others do theirs.

Yes, based on those messages, you need to swap it for CarPlay. The older hubs will actually pop a message in 3.4 about being unsupported, so need to anyway.

Good luck on getting it swapped.

So I just tried to update after using their app...No luck.

It detected the USB device, then said it was indexing it. Then it did nothing. Usually it will say "Updating"

It took a long time for the files to download on my usb drive too. I'll have to do some digging.

Edit:
The USB drive was empty! Not sure why, other than it was really cheap. My other one seems to be working. I used it to update the truck to 3.3 yesterday and I can see files are being saved to it currently. Here's to hoping! I'll update again if it works.

Still looking for a good how-to on taking that center console apart.
