My 18 expo max with 64,000 miles is doing the cam phaser rattle. Just got off the phone with the dealer and he told me they are using "updated cam phaser parts " so this doesn't keep happening. I haven't heard of this, especially since so many people have a reoccurring problem with it. Seems like a load of bs.....

They did start using updated parts last year. Whether or not the update works is an open question. As is whether the supply of the updated parts is sufficient for everyone to ACTUALLY be using them.
But there are updated parts that are supposed to fix the issue, that is true.
so weird / my non-cam phaser sound that showed up a few weeks after cam surgery, seems gone today... with ambient temps down -20 from the past couple days, it’s now completely normal sounding . even after running it for 20 minutes & getting it to full operating temp, even if i shut it down & restart it , like yesterday it would always come back every time i started it, then go away some minutes later. this am i went to time the noise from when it started & stopped & was like, it’s not there today? huh? seemed like the noise , when it was there the other days, followed the same cycle repeat pattern as the visual belt marks. trying to sleuth it so i can re-create it for them. of course now it purrs again. W.T.F.

Im a firm believer in internal parts "self-clearancing" themselves! lol. The oil filter will catch those extra pieces! lol
you mean it worked itself out & won’t return? like a chunk of something was somewhere it shouldn’t have been & now it’s in my oil filter????

edit to add: @Deadman, in all of your experiences with the cams getting done over & over, did the dealer ever advise you to give it another break in period / be gentle? mine certainly did not - & i have been, just in case, to be safe... but kinda let her rip after a couple weeks of gentle driving - this was the past few days prior to hearing this. makes me wonder

Were you getting the rattle on every cold start? Mine has twice made a rattle noise but that’s out of the last 20 or so cold starts. I’m taking a video of every start now to gather evidence for the service rep. Mine is going in for a possible bearing issue this coming Thursday so if the rattle happens before the. I’ll have a video for them. 46k on the clock.

I'm glad they are finally doing the right thing and replacing the engine. Hopefully you'll be good now.

I would suggest doing an oil analysis with each oil change. I just collected my 2nd to send off. I'm now at 10k miles, 03/2020 build date. You will then be able to see the trends of internal wear and break in metals and other things in your engine. It's good piece of mind,
