Hey all,

I don't plan on towing any boats or anything around the town. Does it make sense to get the HD Tow Package on the 22 Expedition Max Limited 4x4 for normal driving or a few road trips?

Logically, no. But after taking to a few folks need your opinion as well.

What has your experience been with or without it?

Thanks,
Nate

Good for resell and at 750$ drop in the bucket when we are paying 75-80K. Never know when you may have to use it either.

Better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it.

Totally agree with these guys.

While some aftermarket trailer brake controllers may be "better", do you really want to be messing around with splicing wires, etc. if you don't need to?

Seems like anytime someone messes with factory wiring, it's an opportunity for Ford or the dealer to deny warranty work and blame that modification.

Not sure what all changed on the 22 but with everything that came with the older versions when selecting the HD tow I would say it was totally worth it. If gas mileage is your top priority then the 3.75 gears with the tow may not be good for you but I think its worth it personally.

Resale alone will pay for itself.
The only thing to consider on 2022 you lose the active park assist feature. Some people like it for tight spots or parallel parking. Personal preference though.

Gearing shouldn't be different, I think max comes standard with 3.73, but I could be wrong.

Well, here's the thing - I am up for getting it. But per the dealer cars with active Park assist 2.0, won't get built or be delayed exponentially. If I don't get HD tow, then I can remove active Park assist. But since the tow package includes it there is no option to remove it from the build. #confused

Nate,
Do you ever plan on flat towing your Expedition behind an RV in the future? If you ever want to have that option, you have to have the HD package with the 2-speed transfer case in order to flat tow.
Just something else to think about.

I think the 3.73 axle ratio really helps the SUV feel much more responsive. The HD tow package also has a different cooling system. I am not sure if these are still true on the 2022.

I think it is better to havce the capability and not need it than vice versa.

Also, having the 3.73 ratio would be good if you decided to swap to a slightly larger tire in the future.
