    LS rear question

They all have 7-pin harnesses, even the non-HD tow 4th gens. In the 2018/19s, if it has the 3.73 axle code, it has the HD tow, unless it’s an FX4 which may or may not have HD tow. If it has the backup assist knob, it has HD tow…

Towing : Which features/packages should I select when custom ordering expedition (build to order)

You're all good. You're perfect if you did not order the panoramic sunroof. Contrary to conventional wisdom, for the 4th Gen Expedition, you want the 4x4 NOT the 4x2. While the 4x4 is a little heavier than the 4x2, the front axle in the 4x4 has an increase in axle weight rating greater than...

I had that happen. They replaced the whole dash under warranty

What does your MPG look like with your EX when towing

As I alluded to before, using premium in the EcoBoost will get you ~10% more range and better performance.

What does your MPG look like with your EX when towing

    1. Between 10 and 11. 2. A 6000lb travel trailer 3. I tow at 70mph which really hurts the mileage. (I’m running the Goodyear Endurance tires on the trailer as they’re rated to 87mph.) 4. I use premium as it gains me about 10% better mileage.

2019 Expedition getting hot but yet to overheat

How did you get the engine temperature to display as a numeric value? Or did you buy it used and it’s always done that?

    How to unfold 3rd row

Look, there's a hatch button at the driver's seat. If someone needs to ride in the 3rd row, it means there are more than enough children about for one of them to get out, walk around to the back, press the 3rd row buttons and then get back in while you sit comfortably in the front seat and make...

    2018 Expedition vs. 2017 Navigator

For what it’s worth, the ‘17 Navigator L only came with an open differential, while the 18 Expedition with HD tow package has an eLSD with locking mode. Note that 2018 Expeditions with the HD tow package were not built in high numbers as Ford had issues producing said fancy rear axle in volume...

Pickup owners: do you prefer towing with Expy or pickup?

This one is really going to depend on the details. What’s the payload of your truck, which engine and where will you be towing? Some of the 1/2 ton trucks have shockingly low payloads (1200lbs and less). If you have one of those, use the Expedition. If you’re going to be towing at speed and...

    Anyone experienced transfer case issues?

Have you tried just locking out all the higher gears save first? That’s what I usually do unless I’m on ice, which is when I’ll use 4L

    Anyone experienced transfer case issues?

In most systems, 4H/4L can be pretty unforgiving if used on a surface without enough wheel slip. Just go look for the TFL truck video where they broke a drive shaft. 4L is great for pulling a heavy boat up a slippery ramp, but make sure you disengage it at the top of the ramp before you go...

What is this top right drive mode?

I’m sure you know this but “drive mode” is a rotary dial, not a label. It will rotate to allow you to choose the drive mode (snow/sand, sport, tow/haul, mud/ruts, etc). The buttons are the drive train settings.

Have you tried making sure your Expedition is running while you disconnect the trailer’s wiring harness?

    First post and first question

Someone else on the forum dug up the patent Ford got on it which was enlightening as it showed all the various inputs to the software control of the hydraulic clutch. Which lets the system do really fun things, like look at the vehicle speed and steering wheel input, calculate the required half...

    First post and first question

Yup. You get AWD with ooen differentials unless you check the HD tow and/or FX4 boxes. Check either of those boxes and you get 4WD and you also get the trick electronically controlled, hydraulically actuated, variable limited slip rear differential with locking mode. And a cooling system upgrade.

What Have You Done to Your 4th Gen This Week?

Yeah, the ventilated seats were kinda useless in Seattle, but they're awesome here. That and the remote start phone app, which I thought was a stupid gimmick. But walking back to the Expy and having it all cooled off is awesome. Off-topic: we were expats in NSW (Port Stephens) for a couple...

What Have You Done to Your 4th Gen This Week?

I promise not to Seattle your Texas if you promise not to California my Texas. It really is surprising how many Expeditions (and other full size SUVs) there are here. I only saw one or two gen 4’s in my part of Seattle (pop 115,000+), and yet there’s a Stealth Max two doors down and a Navigator...

    Expedition Max vs standard size

Get a pool noodle, cut it into 2’ lengths, and then cut them lengthwise (into semi-circular strips). Tape them to the garage door where it would contact the hatch and problem solved.
