I'm getting ready to do the timing job on my '07 Expy. I priced all required components included with the "kit" individually at TASCA Parts and came in well under the "kit" price. I'm replacing all the cam followers as well as the oil pump, and still under $1,200 by a long shot. I don't have the price list on hand, but it might pay for you to have a look at TASCA's site & price everything individually. Just a thought.

EDIT: Not buying the oil pump from TASCA. Going to buy the Melling HV pump from Amazon.
Tasca for the win. I purchased all my Ford Racing timing chain gear via them. I considered the Melling for the GT500, good choices here.

Just to update I took Jeff Kushners advice and put in some oil treatment (with stop leak seal swelling agent) to be exact. I only put in 1/2 of what the bottle said since I have no actual leaks. Why?

My thinking was well I have no external leak, but the tensioner gasket is rubber much like any other oil gasket. This is not a long term fix but seems to have remedied my startup rattle in the interim. I put in a little bit of the oil seal agent into the oil and the chain no longer slaps around at startup. Startups are quiet again whether for 1 hour or 8 hour soak. Note this treatment isn’t recommended for most engine (by me). This could cause me to have other gasket issues down the road. It did do as advertised however and has stopped the tensioner gasket leak since I can’t do timing job until spring. I figure it’s better to have swelled seals than a slapping chain and camshaft chewing metal bits into the engine.

Christmas in March, I have most of the OEM timing parts as of today. Bonus is everything is made in USA:

I must be lucky. Four hundred thousands miles on (3) 5.4L Expies, never had to replace any of those parts. Of course, I only replace parts that need to be replaced. Always ran 5W20 & 6K miles oil changes too.

Yea but didn’t you have a 2003 then a 2014? You passed over the problem child years (2005-2010).
