Air Intake, hmm....

So I'm saving up money to mod my expy & this air intake I thought would really spiff up the engine. For the price too is def. affordable.

Now are these hard to install & do I need any special tools?

What do ya guys think of it & can I do this myself..??

$48. you might as well get it, but wrap the shiney in some sort of heat reduser. someone will know more of what i mean. it will give you more hp and trq since its less heat.

"The insulation can be picked up at most auto parts stores, I got it at my local Oreilly's for fairly cheap. It has a "sticky" backing so all you have to do is pull off the backing paper and wrap! Make sure you have a good pair of scissors or an exacto knife handly for any cut outs that you will need to make to get around sensors. Also make sure to get the "thick" insulation that has fiberglass in it, they have some other stuff that is like reflective paper but that won't do any good."

o yeah! i wont get it since its not on my list of stuff to get, but it will help. if i were you i would change that filter to a k&n asap. but thats just me.

their is a couple options.... if you want the shiney look you can have the in side of the pipe ceramic coated, or wrap it in header wrap which will take away from the astetics..

you should be able to install that in about 30 minutes with basic hand tools and a set of torx bits...should be all you need

yeah that looks like the one racenut has, just wrap it and you got an intake as good as a k&n basicaly

any CIA is easy to install... just uses hand tools... but before you buy a ebay cheap-o... look into the "gotts mod"... I would have done it but already dumped the cash into a K&N FIPK.... but my old 97 F150 had a similar ebay intake and it is still on the truck... just saw the truck the other day.... needs a new motor now...

I think I might do this instead of dropping the $50. The Air intake just looked better than the stock, though... I know, I know, hah...

Even with one of those CAI kits, you are still sucking in hot air from the engine compartment. With the GOTTS mod, you are pulling cooler air from outside the engine bay.

Cold air kits definitely look better.

I just wish that I would have found the "gotts mod" before I threw out the stock air intake! I would change it in a heart beat because the heat soak sucks in the summer. As it is I am trying to find a way to route some stainless into the fender or down low so I can get some cooler air than what I am getting now.

I think if you were to do the "gotts" mod and use the kit True flow sells you would probably make the most horsepower seeing as the true flow pipe is like 4 inches open and the gotts mod helps deliver the most cold air possible from the fender. having an exposed filter gets alot more air in to the engine but that air is also hot.

Just did the GOTTs today, make sure you have a sander or dremel ready for the reshaping of the pipe to make it oblong, that was the most time consuming but that was maybe 30 minutes. Now i just need to get my K&N filter to drop in and really reap the benefits....this was the way to go for sure, parts cost $10

an easier way that u dont need to reshape or file anything when doing the Gotts mod is if you use a piece of exhaust tubing, saved me like 1 hours worth of extra work and fits perfect in the fender well
