What do most of you run? I had to cut my stock off cause of a hole in it, but it sounds like drag car now, I need a good flange bolt on system, or is it cheaper to have a muffler shop put one in??

I've only had mine since August, as far as I know it is stock, but I have this irrational desire to put a louder muffler on so it sounds more truck like.

IMHO BLOWmasters sound like $hit on mod motors. I have a SS flopro with an SRT exit. Sounmd deep, throaty and clean.

had my flowmaster 40 for a bit over a year now, sounds good to me.. some drone when on highway but most of the time the bass is louder than the drone so it dont bother me. I do get compliments from ppl on how it sounds.
i think i spent about $100 parts and labor. local shop did it for me..
FYI - now that you are going to be replacing your muffler, you might want to check your cats. better now than to pay twice on labor.

Well I just had the local shop weld in a 40 series, sounds great. About $140. Apparently my Expy was so loud because two of my cats had been previously removed. I'm going to replace the whole exhaust piece by piece, next up is some pacesetter headers.

Well I just had the local shop weld in a 40 series,

Post a vid if you get a chance to make one, and PLEASE be sure to mention it's a 40-series (Flowmaster I assume?).

2/3 of the vids on YT don't mention the series if it's a Flowmaster, Magnaflow owners only say "it's a Magnaflow" and they leave it at that...how about what model of Magnaflow ya knuckleheads?

So far, I'm leaning towards 50-series Flowmasters. The only other probable choice is a Dynomax Super Turbo, I used a pair of these on a supercharged V6 and was never happier. Deep and throaty sound that made ya forget it was a V6.

FF to 5:15, this will put you right after the Thrush ST and right before they test the Dynomax ST.

Even though my 5.4 is stock (except for the K&N setup) I'm thinking the Dynomax ST would do very well with it.

Flowmaster Super 44 vs Super 50 vs Stock Muffler on 2001 Ford Expedition 5.4L V8 - YouTube

I'm lookin' to be able to hear shorty when she uses that velvet voice enticing me to pull into Dairy Queen for an ice cream.

I have a glasspack that ends before the rear axle and it is still not that loud (for me) due to the 4 cat setup in these trucks. Personally I did not hear big enough of a difference in that video stock to 50 seriess to make it worth spending money. I would go with the 40 series.

Guess I'm after performance more than noise, gotta agree with ya that watching the vid a few more times does show both the 40 and 50 are rather tame. Good "sound" instead of "noise" but makes me leans towards the Dynomax mentioned earlier.

I'm a big opponent of "noise", we get way too much of it from the bubbas and their rusted-out Flows here in SE Texas at the Friday night parking lot gatherings. They'll stand in it and try and out-rapp each other...sounds horrible, almost as bad as the ricers with their pootpipes :hunter:

ooh, found some vids with Dynomax installed...yummy!

Haha well unless you pull all the cats you will not get any rapping from these motors no matter what you do. That's definitely a Chevrolet trademark.

I think there is a difference between noise, and a deep tone. I don't care for the chattering true straight pipes myself, but I am a fan of a nice low note that you can feel as they come by. That is just me though.

I just was pointing out that even with a relatively pro-low note setup like I have, you can hold conversations in the truck without issue.
