Hi guys,

I noticed that while under heavy throttle (e.g. merging into traffic) the shift between gears seems to take a full second (too slow), and feels kind of "elastic like" - it's not sharp. I can't recall clearly if it was always this way. I suspect not, but I may be wrong. Is this a bad sign?

Thanks,

Greg.

My had similar symptoms after my build... go figure. Had transmission guy look at it and he replaced valve the regulates pressure with higher pressure version. Also increased pressure via tune which is not ideal. This helped.

After I broke the tranny racing I had it rebuilt with stronger turbo diesel internals. Upon inspection of the original transmission I was told there was zero friction material left on the bands and the clutches were nearly gone.

So my guess is yep its a bad sign. Likely your bands are and have been slipping. You may be able to buy some time by installing a shift kit or valve body but the damage has already been done.

Take it to a couple of tranny shops and get it diagnosed / estimate.

If the motor feels like it is hesitating it could be torque reduction being applied in the tune. But I would assume this would not change over time.

My motor is totally stock, so I doubt there's any tune issues involved, unless this is some kind of standard "feature". Again, I don't normally peg the throttle on this, so it could be my imagination, but.... it's probably not. I have 205,000km on the motor (127,000 miles). I'll be towing my 25 foot RV this summer, so I'm a little nervous about getting stranded.
