Have my 2018 Expy and cannot get used to the Auto Start-Stop. I can't wait for a work-around!

Isn’t there a option to turn this off? I think this has been discussed in a different thread and it’s a simple thing to deactivate.

I was told that if you put a lighted insert in the trailer hitch on a pickup & plug it into the 4 cavity connector it will disable the stop function. I do not know if this will work but have been told it will.

My wife's 17 Escape Titanium has a button on the dash to turn it off but that only lasts until you turn the key off. The next time you start it you have to do it again.

Why isn’t it annoying? I have driven a couple of cars with it and haven’t even noticed it’s doing anything.

Its disabled in sport and tow haul mode isnt it. I would look in an f150 forum for a way to permanently disable it.

I've seen two mods to disable this on the F150 forum. One is adding a jumper to the dashboard switch so that it's always enabled, even after shutting down. The other is via FORScan. I'd guess that the 4th generation Expy's might share the same address as the current F150 for that function.

I finally had a chance to pick up our 2018 Expy Limited and I've had a little time to poke around in FORScan and play with some values in the various control units. Auto start stop is easy to disable in the BdyCM by changing the second digit in block 726-48-02 to x0xx xxxx xxxx. I'm going to start a new thread for the 4G Expy for all the other FORScan modifications I can confirm working or not.

Can you explain what it's doing? And why it's annoying? Thanks!
It shuts down the engine when you’re stopped at lights or whatever else. It’s barely noticeable, I know people that didn’t even know they had it because it’s that good. It fires up when you start letting up on the brake so it’s ready to go by the time you hit the gas.

It won’t do it if the climate control needs engine power or it’s not warmed up, or a whole other host of parameters. It’s pretty smart.

what type/amount of "bonus" energy are you seeing over time?

I ask as I had a loaner that did that and the "bonus" nearly made up for the fuel consumed. It does take a while to get used to though IMHO.

Stop/Start is the main reason I did not buy 2018 Chevy Traverse. Bought 2017 Expedition Limited instead after 10 years with GMC Acadias, but did not buy onto their 35% shrinkage and staying with same pricing...
In my research I found all the various methods for defeating the Stop/Start from Ford on YouTube in video form. Indeed the dash jumper is the simplest.
Not performing the "surgery" during break in comment by any dealer is BS. Ask him on what technical basis (with specific factory write-ups). He will have nothing. Ford, GM, and Fiat all did it to get cash incentives from the Obama regime, no other reason. Guess they thought it was easier to go along than to do what was right for their customers....
Anyone failing to defeat it has the safety issue of possibly (once a few miles are on it) not being able to quickly and safely evacuate an intersection with a speeding texter or meth head is bearing down on you too fast; or perhaps the many starters and batteries you will need to pay for over the course of 250K miles with 20X the number of Stop/Start cycles will begin to get even the most green tree hugger wondering who to vote for the next time around.

Welcome to the rest of the civilized world where auto start stop is required by law. I would agree with additional wear on starter components if this was 1960. Manufacturing technology has progressed somewhat since then. Batteries don't wear out quicker if they are used more. This feature operates smoothly and almost unnoticed - unless of course you feel the need to ride the brake and rev the engine in preparation for an enhanced departure (into opposing traffic?) from an intersection to somehow avoid an uncontrolled auto bearing down on you from somewhere.....

There is very little difference in batteries or starters, since the 1960s. Alternators however, put out about 5x the juice. A battery and starter are only good for, so many cycles. The headlights and electronics running on battery power, every red light is also a drain. The alternator will be working overtime to keep battery charged. This "technology" was added to meet the stupid, Obama mileage standards. Vehicles with start/stop, supposedly have a bigger(heavier) deep cell battery(probably expensive to change). I always disable my auto headlight delay. Just leaving headlights on for one minute, drains a battery. If you make mostly short trips, it never can fully recharge. The only time start/stop would benefit is in traffic jams.
