Thoughts after first tow, and how fast do you tow?

My Limited has the heavy-tow package and before I even knew it was required, I purchased a Husky Center-Line TS WDH (apparently handles sway control as well). I've researched it a ton and this was the most recommended WDH from most of the RV'ing community and dealer network. (I bought the 800-1200# version, model #32218). Well, maiden voyage with that will be this coming weekend, when we go camping to around 7200' elevation. I will report back on my experiences.

I use the same hitch. My trailer is 33 feet. It works well when properly configured. You may have to play around with the settings a bit. We kept adding things to the trailer, so I had to make adjustments over time. Congrats and safe travels.

Welcome aboard!!! Great pics of the Expi and camper. We are thinking of getting a camper. We have been watching a show where they give a buyer three options and they buy one. My wife wants a class A diesel pusher .... I want a travel trailer. (I hope I win)

what show is that? Sounds cool. We are in beginning stages of a purchase decision.

Great American Country is the channel. Going RV is the show. They have a few shows I watch. Another one is Lake Front Bargain hunt.

I've been very happy with my Equalizer 10k hitch. Very easy to use. Took a while to get it dialed in though. First year of trips were white knuckle while I played around with it. Ultimately more weight transference to the truck's front axle got it right. Now she tows much more stable and enjoyable.

I'm towing with my 2010 EB Expy with HD tow package. Equalizer WDH. Another improvement that I learned was for the first year I was only airing up the tires to the Ford specs on the car. This added to more sloppiness while towing. Now I load up the tires prior to the trip to the tires MFG max allowance. That really helped.

Trailer is 30' total length, 6360 dry weight, 7700 GVWR. Probably towing average around 7000, but I haven't been to a scale. Lately I've been paying more attention to my trucks payload capacity and removing unnecessary weight from the camper. Just because you got the room in the trailer doesn't mean you really need it. I've noticed a much easier ride now that I've trimmed the fat from the camper and avoid putting anything in the back of the Expy. Better to put stuff in the camper and over it's axles if possible.

I've found that 65mph is my sweet spot for stability and gas consumption. I just set the cruise control and stay in the right lane. I find it lowers my stress.

I am curious to see what the difference in feel/tow power is between my V8 and the turbo 6s they use now. I'm eyeing to upgrade to 4th gen perhaps next year.

I tow about 6,000+ pounds. I had my 2014 and now I have the Eco 2017. The Eco tows better. I notice it, especially on hills. The downside to going up hills easier is gas mileage is worse than the 2014. My 2017 gets better gas mileage than my 2014 almost always except for towing and if you put your foot into it often.

Hope it's not worse than the 7-8 mpg I get now when towing?

I haven't read all the posts, but if you want to really really reduce your sway and feel comfortable towing, Google the ProPride WDH. It's expensive, but IMO well worth it. I pulled a 25' TT with a Reese with two friction sway controls, and traded out for the ProPride. What a difference.
