HA!

I found out how to take the damn thing out and when I nearly got it apart I reached up underneath the bottom only to realize there was no access to the port. Not sure what I was thinking. Long story short, I got pissed and stuck a screwdriver underneath to force it out.

It worked! LOL! I was ready to have to glue the new hub in, but everything is fine and now I have full Apple Carplay! It's almost like being in a different truck.

Thanks for the help!

Nice. That is how I did it in the Edge and several others. Trim tools and 2 flat head screwdrivers. Didn’t care about what was coming out. Looks like is basically what worked for you!

If I plug my iPhone into my '17 Expedition it takes over the complete system even though all I want to to is charge the phone.

Do you want CarPlay? If not, you can turn it off in settings.

Just bought a 2017 Limited last month and read this entire thread. Sync 2.2 is the version currently installed. Looks like Lokiwolf upgraded directly from 2.2 to 3.4 (19274). Should I anticipate any problems jumping up to the latest version? Or just follow CyanLab instructions? FWIW, I think 2.2 works pretty well and is responsive.

You're happy with maps 5 years out of date? :) When I upgraded from 2.2 to 3.something last year I got more recent maps and some added features -- including the ability to use the navigation feature when driving.

The upgrade from 2.2 to 3.x adds lots of features and 3.4 20136 is the latest version.

I think you can just do the CyanLab upgrade. Just follow the instructions and make a clean USB file. Two USB drives make is more convenient than just one. 32G is what I used.

See my notes in earlier messages. Note this was a clean install for me and there was no saved destinations, etc. in the nav system when done and I had to relink my phone.

Note my map edition below.

Thanks Chuck. I will attempt the upgrade early next week. Since the SUV has not ever been upgraded for years, I wondering by using CyanLab automated method, just one USB drive is all that is needed? No need to downgrade and then upgrade like you did. There sure is a lot of great information here from you, Lokiwolf and CyanLab here! I'm sure there are other 2017s that have never been updated.

Yep! Just download the installer from CyanLabs and follow it’s instructions. You have it easy. No downgrade before upgrade.

I only had to "downgrade" because I had 3.4.19274 installed -- exact reason is on the CyanLabs instructions. On the download screen when you indicate what Sync version you have the choices are (1) 19274 or or (2) "any other" which you have.

A single 32G USB drive is all you need. The files take up less than 16G but there may need to be some overhead on the drive. For others reading along if you have to go the downgrade/upgrade route a pair of USB drive will work faster as you can download the downgrade and while the car is processing that download the upgrade so it's ready to go as soon as the first one completes. The upgrade part takes maybe 40 minutes

I used the bottom USB port in the console. Tried the upper but nothing happened (or I was too impatient).

Install wants the engine running. So hot here I opened the hood to let all the engine heat vent.
