Well after a serious review, I have revised or I think improved this modification. Upon inspection of getting more and cooler airflow into the intake...sticking a 3" piece of PVC just was not doing it for me...I cut a new piece of pipe today due to the fact when the air comes into the truck..it skates right by the opening unless your wide open throttle and to the back of the fender...so after some measurements and some cuts to a new piece of PVC it now works directional and butts up against the out fender and directs the air into the PVC. Drove it today and noticed a signifigant difference on WOT throttle and while driving my intake temp was 12 to 15 degrees cooler than before...I am curious to once I get the air intake hooked up behind the grill I installed and vented up how much difference it will make? But for now this will work...let me know your thoughts Gents!:superhack::pepper:

Sweet! I bet it will drop the intake temp another 10-15 with the addition of your next mod!

Just my opinion!!!

I don't really think air "flows" through the fender but rather its just a place to pick up air that is outside the engine compartment away from the heat. Of course with engine vacuum it will flow to the filter due to the pressure differential but its not coming from any particular direction.

i think thats his point of making the baker mod. so the air can flow into the intake rather than just suck in air.

it will be flow in a direction once i get get the lower vent hooked and pipe it up there..Im also going to get an electric fan to go inline so that it will pull air while not moving keeping the temp down...Right now just with the change in the PVC and the small vent I have installed on the bumper intake temps are cooler and cool much quicker....just based on what I watch on my edge...as far as muffler pipe...gonna have to figure out how to secure in the hole and then you also have a rust factor...I had to sand this down quite a bit and tap...ok smack it a bit with hammer to get it all the way through...my 2 cents..
Tom...I agree with you but there are enough gaps in the front end that some air travel does go though...especially when your up to speed...

If you install a fan to blow air directly into the engine, make sure that the fan can blow atleast 600 cfm of air. Anything less and you are looking at introducing a restriction. Ideally, if you can get something to blow in say 1000 CFM and be able to provide a slight positive pressure, you can essentially create a slight amount of boost for the engine. Granted, you would only see the "boost" when at wide open throttle. Any other time the throttlebody is going to be the restriction and defeat this.

I am tempted to try this idea my self about moving the intake inlet somewhere other than in the fender but i am coming up short on manufacturing ability. I have no way to bed a 3 inch pipe effectively. I have seen the flexible piping made by like Spectre. Do you guys think that piping would work or should i take the extra effort to bend say .065 Aluminum pipe. I want to place the intake either by the license plate area or just below the ground effect.
