What to look for when buying a gen 1 expy

the 90 deg elbow "thingy"...lol and make sure coolant hose is not leaking on #4 COP

Had #4 fixed, I hear it's a very common problem & they usually all start going out 1 by one if you don't get em all fixed at the same times. Very costly, about $200 to replace one, that's why I opted in to replacing em one at a time.

Check the inside bottoms of the doors for rust.

Make sure to check the rear lower trailing arms for rust issues.

Check the upper trailing arms too, mine were worse than the lowers. I have a pic that I can dig up and post.

It's been said, but here's my list:

Rust - Bottom of door seams, rear trailing arms, radiator support, quarter panel fenders

Front Sway Bar Linkage - often goes 'missing' (rusts away?)

Upper & Lower Ball Joints - Front suspension wears out quickly, most people don't replace before selling

Exhaust Manifold Leak - due to warped manifold and/or broken studs; pretty common

Taking a code reader with you is a good choice. Had to replace the DPFE sensor and the vacuum line to the evac solenoid was melted against the egr valve. Easy and cheap fixes, improved gas mileage too.

4 wheel drive, no air suspension (just look undr the truck), put it in 4low, check in the bumper and under the trim in the wheel wells for mud and rust

The odometer flickering on and off... its bad solder points on the guage board.
