How do you load a CD in the player? I've been alive longer than CDs have been made and I've loaded plenty of CDs into many different players in my life, but I can't load anything in my '18. I gently push it in, expecting the loader to grab it, but...nothing. I try to push, but I'm afraid I'm going to break the disc. What am I missing?

Read the manual. If the procedure doesn't work it is a warranty item.

Yeah, it's such a basic function the manual doesn't even mention it. Ha! Back to the dealer for warranty work. Thanks.

Tried that. It said "No CD" or some such thing. Took it to a local dealership and they verified it is busted. Have an appointment for tomorrow.

Anyone else experience the phantom lift gate opening?

People still use CDs? ;)

My Platinum Max is less than two weeks away from arriving and in all my research (it was extensive) I never once even thought about checking for a CD player. I just assumed it didn't have one. Our other (2017) vehicle doesn't have one (nor does it have AM radio) and we haven't missed it for a second!

Hope you get it fixed.

My 17 has a CD player and an AM radio. I haven't used either one since I got it in February.

In a the Navigator you have to buy the $225 CD player in order to get the Revel speaker upgrade. Needless to say we will have a CD player that never gets used and takes up space in the center console just so I can get my MP3’s through the Revel’s. I’ll probably never even set the FM presets on this radio as I haven’t listened to terrestrial radio since before Stern left the air.

Ours allows you to insert a CD and save the music to the "jukebox". It's awesome. No need to repurchase or download old songs to play through Bluetooth and once you've copied them, you never need the CD again.

May I ask what you mean by phantom? Just the lift gate opening on its own?

I have this feature on my X5 and it rocks, it takes a little time to copy them all but once done it is easy to search and use. Is the "jukebox" feature on the '18s?

Back from the dealer. They found wires blocking the CD from loading. Works now. And yes, I still use CDs. :D Proudly.

Yes, the liftgate is/was opening on its own. It did it during delivery and the salesman thought we were unknowingly doing it until it did it for him while he was holding both remotes and standing at the side of the truck. When I mentioned it at the service appointment this afternoon, the service advisor looked at me like I was an idiot. When I picked it up she said the liftgate mysteriously opened 3 times for the tech. (Yes, the validation felt good.) They reset the module, or some such thing, and told me to watch for it happening again. If it is still randomly opening, they will need the truck for at least a full day so they can communicate with Ford for a fix. Fingers crossed.

I just learned it was built on a Monday, so I'm planning for a lifetime of problems. Sigh.

Don’t get too worried yet, I’m sure the lift gate is a simple fix and the CD player was just as random as the lift gate problem. It’s disconcerting to drop mega money on something that acts up as soon as you get home but it’s going to be ok. They make tons of cars so there is bound to be hiccups from time to time and this is what your warranty is for.

Crusing around the site and found this conversation.

I have an 06 Limited that I bought used from a soccer mom. Can we say 110% Factory? I used the CD player for about three months until I had the cash to install a Bluetooth compatible head unit. I have a collection of about 400 CD's. Mostly stuff from the 90's and earlier as I discovered digital music around 2001 or so and haven't looked back since. As for terrestrial radio, let's just say I hate it because they play the same songs over and over and over and.... well, I think you get the idea. Tried XM for a time in an old GMC Sierra that I had and found the same thing. Anyway, I am fully digital now with a Spotify Premium subscription (Pandora sucks as well) and haven't looked back.

I have a question of curiosity for the OP. Do you also still use VHS tapes, Laser Discs, and or DVD's LOL?

Rw, that's not cool bubba! Not all of us want to pay some stupid company to play music or watch videos, when we can get it for free. Besides all the young generation is bringing back vinyl records. Back in my days growing up in 60's 70's, this stuff was state of the art. Just saying.
