Anyone else having issues with there sync? Both my wife and i keeping either losing our bt connection, or cant even connect to it. Sometimes itll even freeze out. Taken to dealer about it since i bought the truck, but its gotten worse over the course of the year. Took it to dealer twice in dec, after each time, bt connection lost. Its annoying and kind of embarassing that your 70k truck just dumps the connection to your phone when everyone in it is jamming out.

Only happened once when our grandson decided to hook up his phone to play some music. Since I wasn't there and my wife doesn't understand, I have no clue what he did. After that my wife's phone would no longer connect. No issues with mine. Had to reinstall hers. Sometimes I think the system is picky about forcing it to connect to one phone while another is currently synced. The phone that is connected at the time will no longer connect for some reason. I believe our Explorer was the same way.

Try to delete all bt profiles, and start over with set up.

Making it a fresh connect, not just reconnect. Also, before connecting, reboot the phone as well.

Yes! I have had this problem. The dealership said it was my APMI or APIM module. They said it had a short. It has been a CF getting it replaced. Finally got it finishes Friday and I go pick it up and the remote start doesn't work so back to the shop it goes at 7:30 am. I am so sick of this. My problems started with the remote start when I bought it not working then the crazy mirrors which started acting crazy again tonight.

Maybe only connect one phone. The other one you can use thru Apple car play. We have one phone set up to via Apple Car Play and is not connected via BT. The other one is set not to use Apple Car Play and is connected via BT.

This is the set up we use and no problems ... so far.

No connection issues for me, but I do have strange behavior with my iPhone automatically playing (actually starting an unstarted app) google music when I select phone as a source.

It’s almost as if it searches for anything to play if nothing is already playing, then proceeds to auto launch?

I still have CarPlay issues. About once every 10 times I plug in my phone, CarPlay refuses to start, my phone cycles charging and not charging, and then when I give up and unplug my phone my Sync Nav says it doesn't have GPS. It's weird and switching USB outlets doesn't help.

It's annoying but I've learned to live with it.

Not sure if it's an issue with Sync or just a CarPlay integration issue.

I see this issue as well. Could be the phone or Sync or both.

Have you tried using a different USB to lightning cable?

It would make no sense that the same cable works 90% of the time if it's a problem with the cable. But, because the world works in strange ways, yes, I did try a new one with no difference.

Same problem here both on my ‘18 Expedition and my ‘17 F-150. The only cure is to pull over, turn off the engine, open the door until the screen shuts down, and then start it all back up.

Unfortunately I have come to the same conclusion. It's so annoying...especially when I get the wife and kids loaded up for a road trip and have to explain why we have to pull over and shut off the car (and the AC) so I can let my car and phone hug and decide to cooperate again. HA!

I had the first version of Sync in my 2012 Focus ... WOW!!!! How far we have come. It could do a lot more then the systems can now ... but the cost was stability. It would crash all the time. In 2012 there were very few old school buttons to change the station and other functions. When the screen would go black you were flying blind. I would have to pull over, shut the car off, open the door, close the door and restart. (sort of like "Control, Alt, Delete" on a computer. It was Microsoft after all.) Ford then had a USB tool that you would plug in and would do a forced restart.

Every other month I would get a USB stick with an update. The updates basically dumbed the system down. It put stability over versatility.

It must be sync 3 issue as it happens in Lincoln as well. Was on a road trip, unplugged my phone to stop at rest stop, with car running. Came back as I entered the freeway, CarPlay would not start when my wife plugged in my phone to get Waze app going. Nothing. Changed the cable, nothing. Until next gas fill up. Everything works like nothing ever happened.

Just yesterday, wife called to let me know car play is not working.

So it seems like it may work 90% time but once it won’t connect, it just wouldn’t do anything until next start up.

I wish it had a button or function that would let you cycle the sync 3 whenever to fix connection issues. Maybe next update, ford will address this issue.

There is a way to reset the system, thats what i do when it locks up. Unfortunately for me, my other and main issue is that it disconnects intermittently, randomly, and over a pd of time. Example-drove it to tx over the break, it would play bt music for 3 to 4 hrs, then disconnect. It will then do either; connect and disconnect 5 to 6 times, or it will connect and play for another three + hrs. Sometimes as soon as i turn it on, it will disconnect and reconnect, and as i stated it did this to both my wife and mines phones.

The mirror popping is absolutely insane! They have been making memory mirrors for over 20 years...how do you mess that one up!!?? Mine does it so often, worse when cold, and now its done it twice while the motor was running and in Drive.

I also had the iPhone connection issue, especially with the USB Lightning cable, where it wouldn't even work and would say connecting then disconnect over and over and over and nothing would work. But that seems to have gone away in the past few weeks...not sure what changed!

I hadn't had the Carplay over USB connection issue for several months - I thought my new cable might have been the solution. Then, with the recent cold weather here in Calgary (-15C or so, not really that bad) I've had the on/off/on/off cycling problem the last 2 days in the morning. No issue driving home yesterday though.

Here's the symptoms: I plug in the phone. Carplay never connects (at least nothing is shown on the Sync3 display nor the phone). The "charging" lightning bolt will come on for about 3 seconds or so, then go off for a few seconds. This repeats ad nauseum. Yesterday I tried shutting down completely (opening the door) but it didn't help. Bluetooth works fine (I don't have the dropping issue others have seen).

It's possible this is an Apple problem, not a Ford problem (or both). For instance, although I have an older phone so this might not help, there was an IOS update today that mentions CarPlay stability: https://www.carplaylife.com/news/apple-carplay-disconnects-from-iphone-ios-update-fix-releases/

Yep, that's the same situation I have. To get it to correct, you have to shut down, get out, lock the door, wait for the vehicle to completely turn off (dome lights off), then get back in and fire it up again. At least that's what I have to do.

Instead of doing all that, when the problem does occur, I go into the Sync settings and turn off CarPlay. That will stop the power cycling issue and my phone will charge as normal for the duration of the ride.

BUT, if I then use the Sync Nav (because CarPlay is now off) the "no GPS" icon shows up on the Nav map. So whatever the glitch is, it disables the in-car GPS for the duration of the ride.

My suspicion is (although some on here have called BS) is that when CarPlay is on, the truck disables the on-board GPS and CarPlay uses the phone's GPS instead. So when the truck tries to hook up to CarPlay, fails, and I manually disable CarPlay, the truck never turns the on-board GPS back on because it still thinks CarPlay is running. Or something. But whatever it is, when CarPlay fails to start and has to be shut down, the truck's GPS doesn't work.

I have not tried to manually shut down CarPlay when it's working to see if the on-board GPS then works or if the case is that once the truck hands off navigation duties to CarPlay (either successfully or unsuccessfully) the on-board GPS is disabled for the duration.

Who knows.
