One more vote for autostop eliminator. Straight forward install, maintain functionality if you want it.

I just talked to the dealer. They have no idea what's going on. But the battery is in great health and the system showed no faults. They did reset the ASS (whatever that means to "reset" that system) and everything is reportedly working fine now. I will pick it up on the way home this evening and I guess we'll find out.

But no, the ASS has not killed my battery.

(they also did the SSM for the dancing side mirrors and replaced the sticky liftgate button)

And my loaner has been great ($47k sticker for an XL F150?!?!?) but I will be happy to get back in my massaging heated seats and my CCD.

ASS is back to functioning properly and my battery is fine. Dealer has no idea what caused it but acknowledged there was an issue. They reflashed the software associated with the ASS and it’s now right as rain.

I figured out that I was using the wrong type of OBD adapter with FORScan, which was keeping me from seeing/editing the IPC module.

With a new/different OBD adapter, i'm able to see & write to the IPC module, however I'm still getting the "Charging System Service Soon" error on startup. This is after I changed the "Auto Stop Start" settings on BOTH the BdyCM module AND the IPC module from Enabled to Disabled.

I know my settings are being applied because i've changed some minor other settings (disabling double-honk when leaving cabin) and those have worked.

Any FORScan experts able to point me in the right direction?

The “service charging system soon” is related to the auto stop/start. It’s a common problem when disabling it in FORscan. Unfortunately, there isn’t a comprehensive and accurate list of settings for the 18+ Expedition. There’s a mish-mash of previous gen and F150 settings.

my guess is, by disabling auto stop/start in forscan, you are not actually disabling it directly, but indicating that the system should not turn off the engine because the battery needs to charge - hence, the warning for servicing. I don’t believe it affects the actual charging system in any way, but never left it ‘disabled’ long enough to find out (which could be years down the road).

has anybody with a good few miles on their vehicle disabled the auto stop/start some time ago and seen any negative consequences beyond the service message?

Mine has been disabled for close to two years with no messages or issues. Mine is a early 2018, which I believe will not trigger a message if the system is disabled. I am interested in which OBD adapter texevora is using since the IPC module is the only one I can not write to. Of course I have also not updated Forscan in awhile so it may just be they have figured out how to read/write to the IPC in later versions.

Interesting. Mine is a late 2019 model, and I got that message. I’m not really offended by the Auto stop/start and was just experimenting with a few settings, and put it back (having bricked a system on my other car, I wasn’t about to goober things up with the new truck by doing some random testing).

I had a knowledgeable sales rep who even told me how to disable the system without Forscan or the AutoStop Eliminator. He had also told me that Ford was going to make disabling the system in later years. I am betting he was correct.

My dad drives a 2013 Mercedes with it and it’s got ~75k miles with no issues.

Much ado about nothing if you ask me. I wish my 2012 had it.

75k miles is nothing. Check back at 200k. Then we’ll see.

ASS hasn’t shut my vehicle off in about 8 months. The reason given by the gauge cluster is “Engine on Due To Vehicle Charging.” Additionally, when I open my doors with the engine off (when I get home) the interior lights only stay on for about 10 seconds before they shut off and I get the “we had to turn everything off to save the battery” message.

Something is clearly wrong with either my battery (it’s not holding enough charge) or my alternator (it’s not charging the battery sufficiently). And, before someone suggests it’s because the vehicle isn’t on long enough to charge sufficiently, the length of drive doesn’t matter; I did a two hour drive the other day and when I reached my destination...same thing, interior lights all shut off within 15 seconds of opening door.

It’s headed to the dealer today and I’ll report back.
I can’t recall if you ever reported back about your battery and the trip to the dealer... what did they say? I’m having the same issues as you and they come and go.

ok, I found your reported back post. So I’ll ask a different question... is it still acting up since it’s been back for a week now?

First "mod" was the 4D Tech start/stop eliminator before I even had 1K on the ODO. If I wanted a fuel efficient vehicle I wouldn't have bought the largest one possible. If there was a larger vehicle "generally available" I would have bought it. So fuel efficiency was the furthest from my mind when buying a small bus. My 5.7 Hemi Grand Cherokee I had before this I tuned and turned off the stupid MDS feature as well. Just let the V8 sing all the time...

It has been flawless since it came back. So apparently maybe that system needs to be kicked in the pants occasionally.

Today, of curiosity, I connected my battery to a battery charger/analyses and it showed my battery was 50-75% charged. I’m going to let it charge and see if the locks and such work. Most of my drives are short and I may go a day or two with no driving so I wouldn’t be shocked if the charging system is always playing catch up.

I had that … more than once. Once was after I bought a new battery but did not charge it up myself right away to absolute FULL. Another time was an older battery that had been run down a couple times and was compromised by that. Probably on other occasions the alternator wasn't charging it up because it was weak or I did a lot of short trips.

I have been telling people for years that AGM batteries are hard to top off with any vehicle. And I know my 19’ Expy can’t do it with short daily trips. It needs like a 8 hour drive or put the charger on it every so often. AGM compatible charger that is.

I’m using a optima AGM charger. I’m just curious if the low charge state is causing issues with my door locks.

None of my touch locks were working (other than the driver's door) prior to having my ASS reset. Once they did that, all have been working flawlessly. So yes, I bet you have a low battery and the system is deprioritizing the always-on door sensors.
